A mosque library is an institution or work unit that manages written works, printed works and/or recorded works professionally using a standard system, which was formed and developed by the mosque to meet research, knowledge, information, religious and recreational needs. As an informal educational institution, the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library should provide printed books, especially about Minangkabau Customs. This is due to the small number of printed books on the subject of Minangkabau Customs. The aim of this research is to describe the role of the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library as a Minangkabau Traditional Learning Resource and to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors of the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library as a Minangkabau Traditional Learning Resource. The research method used is a qualitative method. Qualitative research is a type of research that produces insights that cannot be achieved using statistical or other quantitative methods. The results of this research indicate that the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library cannot be said to be a source of learning about Minangkabau Customs. This is due to the low level of visits to the library and the relatively small collection held by the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library. Other obstacles found in the management of the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library are the absence of definitive management staff, the absence of a fixed budget, relatively small collections, the membership system has not yet been established and the absence of donors or institutions that provide book grant assistance and the promotion of POCADI (Pojok Baca Digital) by the Sumatra Grand Mosque Library has not yet been implemented. West to the residents of the city of Padang.
This study addresses a pertinent and underexplored area: the role of a mosque library in preserving and disseminating local cultural knowledge, specifically Minangkabau adat. The research question is well-articulated, aiming to describe the library's function as a learning resource and identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. The qualitative methodology is appropriate for this exploratory investigation, seeking in-depth insights into the operational realities and perceived effectiveness of the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library. The abstract clearly sets the stage by highlighting the perceived need for such a resource, given the scarcity of materials on Minangkabau customs, which forms a strong basis for the research's relevance. The findings are quite stark and unambiguous, concluding that the library currently falls short of being a significant learning resource for Minangkabau Customs. The abstract effectively enumerates a comprehensive list of obstacles contributing to this situation, including low visitation, limited collection size, absence of definitive management staff, lack of a fixed budget, an undeveloped membership system, absence of donor support, and unpromoted digital resources (POCADI). While these findings are critical, the abstract could benefit from a brief elaboration on the unique synergy or potential conflict between a mosque library's primary religious function and this specific cultural role, even if the problem statement implicitly suggests its importance. This would further ground the study's unique contribution. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the practical challenges faced by an institution attempting to serve a dual role of religious and cultural education. The detailed identification of inhibiting factors offers a clear roadmap for potential interventions and improvements, not just for the West Sumatra Grand Mosque Library, but for similar institutions aspiring to cultural preservation. Future research could build upon these findings by exploring the community's demand for such resources, best practices for integrating cultural content within religious institutions, or the impact of implementing some of the suggested improvements. The study serves as a crucial starting point for discussions on enhancing the utility and outreach of mosque libraries beyond their traditional scope.
