Abstract

The low level of public awareness about environmental cleanliness and the sorting of organic and inorganic waste is a problem that continues to occur from day to day. Garbage officers are late in collecting garbage, adding to the problem. The purpose of this activity is to provide understanding and education to the public about organizing a clean environment. The activity lasted one day and the public's enthusiasm was very high. The resource person delivered material about waste banks as one solution. This activity is expected to provide understanding and education to the public to realize the importance of maintaining the environment and living healthily.

Review

This submission addresses a highly pertinent and critical issue concerning environmental cleanliness and waste management, particularly the low public awareness regarding waste sorting. The focus on community engagement through education and the concept of waste banks offers a practical approach to tackling a pervasive problem in many communities. The abstract clearly articulates a commendable objective: to enhance public understanding and education on creating a clean environment. The reported high enthusiasm from participants suggests a positive initial reception for the activity, indicating its potential to foster community engagement on this vital topic. However, the abstract presents significant limitations that hinder its suitability as a robust journal publication. Describing a "one-day activity" as "pendampingan penataan lingkungan" (environmental management accompaniment) creates a discrepancy, as genuine accompaniment implies a sustained, multi-day or ongoing process rather than a single event. Furthermore, the methodology lacks critical detail; there is no mention of the number of participants, the specific location, or how "understanding and education" were qualitatively or quantitatively measured beyond anecdotal enthusiasm. Crucially, the abstract lacks any empirical results demonstrating the actual impact on public awareness, changes in waste sorting behavior, or tangible improvements in environmental cleanliness, moving beyond merely stating the activity's objectives and expectations. The "pembuatan sampah organik" aspect mentioned in the title is also not elaborated upon in the activity description within the abstract. To be considered for a full journal publication, this work requires substantial expansion and methodological rigor. Future submissions should detail the research design, including participant demographics, specific educational modules, and a robust evaluation framework with pre- and post-intervention assessments to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. It is essential to provide concrete data on the impact of the intervention, perhaps through waste audits, surveys, or long-term observations, rather than solely relying on observed enthusiasm. Expanding the "pendampingan" aspect to a longer, multi-stage intervention would also better align with the title and allow for the measurement of sustained impact. Currently, the abstract reads more like a brief community service report rather than an academic article, and significant revisions are needed to transform it into a publishable contribution to environmental education or waste management literature.
