Abstract

Review

The community service project titled "Pendampingan Hukum Kepada Masyarakat Terhadap Pencemaran Air Sumur Akibat Limbah Sawit di Desa Rowo Pringsewu Lampung" addresses a critical environmental justice issue. The abstract clearly outlines the project's commendable objective: advocating for the fundamental rights of Desa Rowo Rejo's community to clean and healthy water, a right enshrined in the Indonesian Environmental Protection and Management Law (UU PPLH). The problem, stemming from the unintended consequences of palm oil waste utilization for mushroom cultivation leading to severe well water pollution, highlights a pertinent challenge at the intersection of local economic activities and environmental sustainability. The methodology, encompassing legal socialization, interactive discussions, and direct community advocacy, demonstrates a practical and participatory approach to empowering affected individuals. While the project's identification of systemic issues is valuable, the abstract's presentation of results primarily underscores existing implementation gaps rather than detailing specific successes or challenges *within the scope of the pendampingan itself*. It effectively highlights the persistent chasm between a robust legal framework and its poor enforcement on the ground, attributing this to weak regulatory oversight, the inherent difficulty in scientific evidence collection for pollution cases, and limited community access to effective legal recourse. However, the abstract could benefit from elaborating on how the "pendampingan" actively navigated or sought to overcome these identified obstacles, or what specific interventions were undertaken to facilitate legal access or evidence gathering during the project duration. Without this, the results, while accurate in describing the broader landscape, leave a question mark regarding the direct impact or specific learning derived from *this particular* community engagement in addressing these complex barriers. Overall, this community service initiative makes a significant contribution by drawing attention to a pervasive problem impacting rural communities in Indonesia. The project's findings serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved environmental governance and the strengthening of justice mechanisms for pollution victims. Future work building on this engagement could explore specific policy recommendations to bolster oversight, develop accessible scientific proofing methods for communities, or establish more effective legal aid pathways. Furthermore, documenting the long-term impact of such "pendampingan" and any subsequent legal actions or community empowerment outcomes would provide invaluable insights. This work underscores the vital role of legal assistance in bridging the gap between legal rights and their practical realization, advocating for greater accountability and environmental justice in areas affected by industrial and agricultural waste.
