This article proposes a timely and relevant exploration into the evolving landscape of reading practices within the digital culture. Recognizing the proliferation of new digital supports and virtual self-publishing platforms, the study aims to critically debate the inherent interactivity of screen-based reading in contemporary connected society. Originating from a doctoral thesis, the research situates its inquiry within the dynamic context provided by Wattpad, positioning this popular virtual self-publishing platform as its primary object of investigation. The choice of Wattpad is particularly astute, given its significant role in fostering a vibrant community of "wattpaders" and exemplifying the increased dynamism of digital literary activity. The abstract effectively highlights the paper's intention to delve into the interactive immersion experienced by readers on such platforms, portraying it as a fundamental requirement for engagement in the modern world. Furthermore, the theoretical grounding established through the inclusion of scholars like Roger Chartier, Lucia Santaella, and Katherine Hayles suggests a robust and multidimensional approach, promising a nuanced and profound discussion on the historical, semiotic, and technological dimensions of digital reading. Ultimately, this article appears poised to make a valuable contribution to the field of Literary Studies by illuminating how digital platforms not only expand horizons for writers but, crucially, redefine the experience for readers. By examining Wattpad as a microcosm of contemporary digital reading, the paper promises to offer insights into the interactive and immersive qualities that characterize reading 'on' and 'from' digital culture. The anticipated discussion on interactivity and immersion will be key to understanding the new forms of engagement and literacy demanded by our screen-centric world, thereby enriching our comprehension of how individuals read, exist, and participate in the modern informational environment.
