O design gráfico desafia a leitura, usando (i)legibilidade e singularidade como atrativos editoriais chave.
The submitted work, "O desafio na experiência de leitura da *Coleção Particular*: a estratégia mercadológica de uma (i)legibilidade," offers a compelling exploration into the complex relationship between book design, reader engagement, and commercial interests within the publishing industry. The paper's stated objective is to understand how visual and graphic configurations of a book contribute to meaning-making and the reading experience, without overlooking the marketing objectives of editorial groups. This focus on the interplay between aesthetics and market strategy is particularly pertinent in today's diverse publishing landscape, where product differentiation extends far beyond textual content. The analysis of the *Coleção Particular* from the Brazilian publisher Cosac Naify provides a rich and specific case study for this investigation. The methodology centers on a close examination of three titles from the aforementioned collection, which are characterized by their unconventional graphic resources and material finishes. The abstract highlights that these design elements often verge on the concept of an "artist's book," intentionally creating obstacles, challenges, and provocations for the reader. These features are not arbitrary; rather, the paper argues that the books establish conceptual relationships with their narratives through the expressive use of materials and finishing techniques. This intentional integration of form and content, even to the point of potentially hindering conventional legibility, is presented as a deliberate communication strategy. Ultimately, the research effectively demonstrates how the editor leverages the ideas of collectivism and singularity through the collection's title and the distinct graphic materiality of the books, positioning these attributes as key marketing strategies. By embracing a deliberate level of "(i)legibility" and unique production values, Cosac Naify differentiated its editorial products in a competitive market, appealing to a desire for unique artifacts alongside literary content. This paper makes a significant contribution by illuminating how visual and tactile elements can transcend mere aesthetics to become integral components of a book's conceptual framework and its commercial appeal, offering valuable insights for scholars of publishing, design, and reader studies.
