Review

This study presents a timely investigation into the knowledge levels of millennial artisans within the traditional ikat weaving small industries in Troso Village, Jepara Regency. Given the significant role of small industries in local economies and the preservation of cultural heritage, understanding the proficiency of younger generations in these intricate crafts is highly relevant. The paper's clear objective to quantify this knowledge is met with the finding that a substantial 78.89% of millennial artisans possess a high level of understanding of the weaving production process. This knowledge, as the authors suggest, is influenced by their education, age, and experience. Methodologically, the research adopts a quantitative approach, clearly delineating a population of 428 and a sample of 90 millennial ikat weaving artisans, selected via proportional area random sampling. While the sample size and method seem appropriate for deriving statistically representative insights, a significant limitation in the abstract is the lack of detail regarding the operationalization and measurement of "knowledge." It is unclear precisely how this 'level of knowledge' was assessed to arrive at the 78.89% figure, what specific criteria defined a "high" category, or the instruments (e.g., type of questionnaire, practical assessment) employed. Providing clarity on these aspects, alongside the specific definition of "millennial generation" used, would substantially enhance the methodological transparency and allow for a more robust evaluation of the study's findings. The reported high level of knowledge among millennial artisans offers a positive outlook for the future of the Troso Ikat Weaving industry. However, the recommendation for improving knowledge through job training and empowerment initiatives from the Jepara Regency Government seems somewhat incongruous if the current knowledge level is already high, unless these programs target specific advanced skills or address particular knowledge application gaps not covered by the general assessment. Future research would benefit from a more granular analysis, potentially employing qualitative methods to explore *how* this knowledge is acquired, transmitted, and practically applied. Furthermore, investigating the relationship between this high knowledge base and outcomes such as innovation in design, market responsiveness, and overall entrepreneurial success among these millennial artisans would provide invaluable insights for the sustainable development and modernization of this vital cultural industry.
