The submitted manuscript, "Keanekaragaman Gastropoda di Area Persawahan Desa Kebonagung, Kecamatan Sukodono, Kabupaten Sidoarjo," addresses a relevant ecological topic concerning gastropod diversity in an agricultural landscape. Given Indonesia's renowned biodiversity, studies focusing on specific faunal groups like Gastropoda, particularly in human-modified environments like rice fields, are valuable. The stated aim of analyzing gastropod diversity as a potential bioindicator for water quality in the Kebonagung village area is commendable, as it seeks to fill a knowledge gap identified by the authors regarding local publications on this subject. This initial inventory provides a foundational understanding of the gastropod fauna present in the study area. Methodologically, the study employed a descriptive observational approach with sampling conducted at three distinct points. The core finding reveals the presence of 513 gastropod individuals, encompassing 5 families and 5 identified species: *Pomacea canaliculata*, *Filopaludina javanica*, *Melanoides tuberculata*, *Lissachatina fulica*, and *Radix rubiginosa*. This data offers a snapshot of the gastropod assemblage in the rice fields. While the study effectively quantifies species richness and abundance, its current scope, based purely on species identification and enumeration, primarily serves as an initial biodiversity assessment. To fully substantiate the claim of gastropods serving as bioindicators for water quality, the methodology would ideally require concurrent measurements of water quality parameters to correlate with species presence/absence or abundance. The authors astutely recognize this gap in their "tindak lanjut" (follow-up) section, proposing further analysis of water quality parameters such as BOD, nitrate, and phosphate. This recommended next step is crucial and highly endorsed, as it would provide the necessary environmental data to effectively link gastropod distribution and abundance to specific water quality conditions, thereby validating their role as bioindicators in this specific ecosystem. For future endeavors, expanding the number of sampling points, incorporating a longer study duration to account for seasonal variations, and potentially including comparative sites with varying levels of agricultural intensity would further strengthen the ecological insights. Overall, this paper presents a valuable baseline inventory and sets a clear path for more comprehensive ecological research in the region.
