Abstract

Indonesia is famous for its diverse tribes, languages, and beliefs, a fact that can not be disputed by the people of Indonesia. They will not separate the diversity in Indonesia from the conflicts that arise in people's lives caused by various factors. Then religious moderation is one of the efforts or middle ground that occurs in the lives of Indonesian people to maintain the integrity and harmony that has long been built. In addition, it also prevents extreme and radical thoughts and exaggerated attitudes that arise in social life, both in the social and spiritual spheres. This article uses a qualitative method, library research with an analysis comparing the text of the Qur'an with the Vedas, which discusses religious moderation. The results in this paper state that the teachings of Islam and Hinduism, when talking about religious moderation, it turns out that many have in common, which ultimately leads to several important points: no one religious teaching wants division in it, does not force to embrace the same teachings, build peace and happiness in life, even united in living life in the world as a whole society because everything is one family that has the same purpose in life in the world.

Review

The paper, titled "KAJIAN KOMPARATIF AL-QUR’AN DAN WEDA TENTANG MODERASI BERAGAMA," addresses a highly pertinent and timely subject, particularly within the diverse socio-religious landscape of Indonesia. The abstract effectively highlights the critical need for religious moderation as a means to mitigate conflict, prevent extremism, and foster harmony in a pluralistic society. By undertaking a qualitative, library-based comparative analysis of the Qur'an and the Vedas concerning this theme, the study posits an ambitious and valuable endeavor to identify shared principles between two major world religions. The abstract's key strength lies in its assertion of significant commonalities between Islamic and Hindu teachings regarding religious moderation. The identified convergent points—such as the rejection of division, the absence of forced conversion, the promotion of peace and happiness, and the perception of humanity as one family with shared purpose—represent a powerful message for interfaith dialogue and cooperation. These findings, if rigorously substantiated in the full text, could serve as a vital theological foundation for practical initiatives promoting religious tolerance and social cohesion, moving beyond mere coexistence to a deeper understanding and appreciation of shared human values. While the abstract presents compelling preliminary findings, a full review would need to scrutinize the depth and rigor of the "comparative analysis" itself. Future iterations or the full paper should elaborate on the specific methodologies employed for textual comparison: which texts/chapters/verses from both the Qur'an and the Vedas were examined, and what hermeneutical frameworks guided their interpretation to arrive at these shared concepts. It would also be beneficial to acknowledge potential variations in interpretation within each tradition or historical contexts that might complicate a straightforward thematic comparison, ensuring that the identified commonalities are not oversimplified but emerge from a nuanced scholarly engagement with both sacred texts.
