Abstract

Family planning is an action that helps individuals or married couples to achieve certain objectives, avoid unwanted births and regulate the interval between pregnancies. The use of the MKJP contraceptive method in active family planning in OKU Regency is still very low, namely the IUD method of 3.6%, MOP of 0.2%, MOW of 1.2% and implants of 11.2%. This type of research is quantitative using the Analytical Survey method with a Cross Sectional approach. This research was conducted in June 2021 at the UPTD Puskesmas Lubuk Batang in 2021. The population in this study were all 311 active family planning acceptors. The sample size of 76 people was determined by the Slovyn formula. The sampling technique of Non Random Sampling is accidental sampling. The analysis used is univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The results of the Chi Square statistical test showed that there was a relationship between mother's knowledge and the use of IUD contraception with P Value = 0.039. There is a relationship between husband's support and the use of IUD contraception with P Value = 0.016. This study can expand the information obtained by the Puskesmas regarding the IUD, especially the characteristics of the acceptor and the factors that influence the selection of the IUD, so that each acceptor can use the right contraception according to his characteristics and needs.   Keywords:Husband's support, Mother's knowledge, UseContraceptives, Intra Uterine

Review

This study investigates the crucial factors influencing Intra Uterine Device (IUD) contraception uptake in a context of notably low Modern Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive (MKJP) method utilization in OKU Regency. The research effectively addresses the relationship between a mother's knowledge, husband's support, and the use of IUD contraception, identifying both as significant predictors with respective P-values of 0.039 and 0.016. This finding is highly relevant for public health interventions, particularly given the stated objective of expanding information for local health centers (Puskesmas) to facilitate appropriate contraceptive selection based on individual characteristics and needs. The paper's contribution lies in empirically confirming these associations, which are often anecdotally understood but less frequently quantified in specific regional settings. Methodologically, the study employs a quantitative analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach, which is suitable for exploring associations at a single point in time. The population and sample size calculations using the Slovin formula are clearly stated, though the application of non-random accidental sampling might introduce limitations regarding the generalizability of the findings beyond the studied group at UPTD Puskesmas Lubuk Batang. While univariate and bivariate analyses, including the Chi-Square test, are appropriate for the research questions, the cross-sectional design inherently restricts the ability to infer causality. Future research could benefit from a more detailed justification of the sampling technique's implications or considering a probabilistic sampling method to enhance the external validity of the results. The practical implications of this research are substantial, offering actionable insights for family planning programs. The significant relationship between mother's knowledge and IUD use underscores the need for targeted educational campaigns to enhance women's understanding of IUD benefits, safety, and effectiveness. Equally important is the finding on husband's support, which highlights the critical role of male engagement in family planning decisions. Puskesmas could leverage these findings to develop counseling strategies that actively involve husbands and address their perspectives, thereby fostering a supportive environment for IUD adoption. Further studies could explore the specific aspects of knowledge or types of support that are most influential, or examine the effectiveness of interventions designed to improve these factors, potentially through qualitative methods or longitudinal designs.
