Faktor pendorong minat tenaga kerja asal lombok timur menjadi pekerja migran indonesia (pmi). Telusuri faktor pendorong minat tenaga kerja Lombok Timur menjadi Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI).
This paper, titled "FAKTOR PENDORONG MINAT TENAGA KERJA ASAL LOMBOK TIMUR MENJADI PEKERJA MIGRAN INDONESIA (PMI)", investigates the crucial factors driving individuals from East Lombok Regency to seek employment as Indonesian Migrant Workers. The research is highly relevant given the persistent issues of increasing workforce and unemployment in Indonesia, which often compel segments of the population to pursue opportunities abroad. By focusing on a specific region known for out-migration, the study aims to provide localized insights into a widespread national phenomenon and contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of labor migration in the Indonesian context. Employing a quantitative methodology with a causality approach, the study sampled 100 respondents selected through the Slovin formula and purposive sampling across three high-migration sub-districts: Masbagik, Sikur, and Pringgabaya. Data collection involved observation, questionnaires, and documentation, subsequently analyzed using binary logistic regression with EViews 10. The core findings indicate that education level and income significantly and negatively influence the interest in becoming a PMI. Conversely, factors such as marital status, number of dependents, debt, and home ownership were found to have a positive but statistically non-significant effect on this interest, suggesting that conventional socio-economic burdens may not be the primary drivers of migration intent in this specific context. The study provides valuable empirical evidence challenging some common assumptions about migration motivations, particularly the non-significance of family and other economic burdens. The significant negative relationship between education/income and migration interest strongly supports policies aimed at improving educational quality and creating adequate local employment opportunities as effective deterrents to outward labor migration. While the quantitative approach and specific targeting of high-migration areas are strengths, the relatively small sample size of 100 respondents, though purposively selected, might limit the broader generalizability of the findings. Nevertheless, the research offers practical and well-grounded implications for regional policy-makers seeking to manage and reduce labor migration, emphasizing preventative measures rather than solely focusing on alleviating existing burdens.
