Abstract

La creciente presencia de la tecnología en nuestras interacciones cotidianas lleva a la necesidad de un análisis crítico del mundo digital en los estudios del lenguaje. Así, la etnografía digital se convierte en un enfoque metodológico interesante, debido a su compromiso con la descripción densa, ofreciendo perspectivas críticas sobre cómo ocurren las interacciones digitales, y sobre cómo se ha diseñado y experimentado el entorno digital. En vista de eso, este artículo discute tres aspectos centrales de este enfoque metodológico: 1) los recursos y condiciones del mundo digital en el siglo XXI; 2) los contextos online y offline implicados en la historicidad del mundo digital; 3) los posibles caminos a través de las etnografías digitales. Las discusiones destacan que, para abordar la complejidad de lenguaje y de big data, necesitamos considerar sus vínculos con los procesos sociales y políticos, especialmente con la distribución desigual de las infraestructuras de la globalización, que no sólo determina las posibilidades y limitaciones de nuestras acciones en Internet, sino que en realidad produce el significado de “Internet”. Finalmente, presentamos algunas implicaciones metodológicas y desarrollos de esta propuesta, explorando algunos horizontes éticos para la etnografía digital, como una forma de deconstruir ilusiones comunes sobre este campo.
