Abstract

L’EXTERMINATION DE LA SCIENCE, DE LA CULTURE ET DE L’ART CRACOVIENS PAR L’OCCUPANT HITLÉRIEN DANS LES ANNÉES 1939—45En 1939 les habitants de Cracovie, étourdis par les événements de la guerre, et par les premières journées de l’occupation, attendaient avec angoisse ce que leur apporterait le lendemain. Chaque journée passait sous le signe des violences, des pillages et d’une cruauté sadique.La terreur de l’occupant atteignit en premier lieu ceux qui créaient la science et la culture polonaises. Les conséquences de l’occupation furent ressenties pendant longtemps. La destruction de la science et de l’instruction, l’extermination de l’intelligentsia, la liquidation de toute forme de la vie culturelle, le pillage des oeuvres d’art ont provoqué une lacune difficile à combler en peu de temps.Il faut souligner que l’occupant n’arriva pas néanmoins à détruire totalement la science et la culture polonaises.L’Université Jagellone et l’Académie des Mines menèrent une activité didactique clandestine. De même, quelques commissions de l’Académie des Sciences travaillèrent clandestinement.Un enseignement important se développa dans la clandestinité. Huit ensembles de théâtre jouèrent clandestinement, on édita la presse, on donna des concerts, on organisa des réunions.Le présent article ne donne pas l’image complète de la vie culturelle et scientifique de Cracovie pendant l’occupation hitlérienne. Ce n’est qu’un bref précis du problème, illustré par des exemples concrets qui donnent pourtant la possibilité de se rendre compte comment tragique et boulversante fut l’image de la vie culturelle de Cracovie des années 1939—1945.
