Abstract

Sexual Infectious Infection (IMS) is a health condition caused by infections that spread through sexual activity. IMS can befall anyone and potentially have serious consequences, especially in reproductive organs. Adolescents who are undergoing a developmental phase with high curiosity about sexual behavior, are susceptible to unsafe sexual practices. The data recorded that 59% of women and 74% of men had sexual intercourse before marriage. This study aims to deeply analyze adolescents’ lifestyles as well as the driving factors of risky sexual behavior with multiple partners in Samarinda City. The approach used is qualitative with a case study design involving 7 informants. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews. Research results indicate that multiple partner sex behavior among Samarinda youth has been integrated into their lifestyle, which was formed through a process of normalization by the social environment. Adolescents view sexual activity from physical contact to intimate relationships with various partners as normal in the context of modern relationships.

Review

The study, "Eksplorasi Gaya Hidup Remaja dan Perilaku Seksual Berisiko (Multiple Partners): Studi Kualitatif di kota Samarinda," addresses a critical public health issue concerning adolescent risky sexual behavior and its implications for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The abstract effectively contextualizes the problem by highlighting the vulnerability of adolescents and the alarming statistics regarding premarital sexual intercourse. The choice of a qualitative, case study approach to deeply analyze lifestyles and driving factors in Samarinda City is commendable, promising nuanced insights into a complex social phenomenon that often eludes quantitative measurement. This research holds significant potential to enrich our understanding of adolescent sexual health in a specific cultural setting. A notable strength of this study lies in its qualitative methodology and in-depth interview approach, which are ideally suited for exploring the intricate social and psychological dimensions of lifestyle choices and sexual behavior. The abstract clearly articulates the central finding: that multiple partner sex behavior among Samarinda youth has become integrated into their lifestyle through a process of social normalization. The observation that adolescents perceive various forms of intimate relationships and physical contact as "normal" in modern relationship contexts offers a compelling explanation for the prevalence of such behaviors. This insight into the social construction of normalcy surrounding risky sexual practices is invaluable for developing targeted and culturally sensitive interventions. While the qualitative depth achieved with 7 informants is a strength for detailed case exploration, it inherently limits the generalizability of the findings beyond the studied cases in Samarinda. Future research could build upon these foundational insights by exploring a broader range of adolescent demographics or incorporating comparative studies across different urban or rural settings to ascertain the extent of this normalization trend. Furthermore, investigating the specific mechanisms and agents of this social normalization, such as peer influence, media, or family dynamics, could provide actionable data for public health campaigns. Despite this scope limitation, the study offers a crucial preliminary understanding of a pervasive issue, laying essential groundwork for further inquiry and informing public health strategies aimed at promoting safer sexual practices among adolescents.
