Abstract

Artikel ini mengkaji eksplorasi desain vernakular sebagai identitas visual pesisir melalui studi kasus di Kota Tegal, Jawa Tengah. Fokus utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana elemen-elemen desain vernakular, yang dipengaruhi oleh kondisi iklim, budaya lokal, dan sumber daya alam, berkontribusi pada pembentukan identitas visual kota pesisir. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi berbagai karakteristik arsitektur tradisional yang masih bertahan di Kota Tegal, bentuk bangunan terbuka, serta ornamen dan motif tradisional yang mengandung makna filosofis. Desain vernakular di Kota Tegal tidak hanya berfungsi secara fungsional, tetapi juga menggambarkan nilai-nilai sosial dan budaya yang mengakar dalam masyarakat pesisir. Dengan mempertahankan elemen-elemen desain ini, Kota Tegal mampu mempertahankan keunikan visual dan kebanggaan lokal yang menghubungkan masyarakat dengan sejarah serta tradisi mereka.
