Eksplorasi biji merupakan bagian dari kegiatan konservasi secara ex situ yang hasilnya dapat disimpan pada bank biji. Bank biji memiliki beberapa keunggulan sebagai salah satu metode konservasi yang efektif. Kegiatan eksplorasi flora dan pengayaan koleksi bank biji dilakukan di kawasan Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) dan Cagar Alam (CA) Pananjung Pangandaran pada tanggal 2 April 2019 sampai dengan 15 April 2019. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari dan mengumpulkan biji tumbuhan serta mengetahui keanekaragaman jenis dari tumbuhan yang berbuah. Metode yang digunakan pada ekplorasi flora ini yaitu metode jelajah. Metode pemanenan buah dilakukan dengan cara memanen langsung dari pohon yang berbuah. Setiap spesimen buah dan biji dilakukan karakterisasi, pengukuran kadar air dan pemeriksaan viabilitasnya untuk mengetahui karakter simpan biji tumbuhan tersebut. Berdasarkan penelitian ini didapatkan 34 nomor koleksi selama 14 hari di dua lokasi dalam kawasan TWA dan CA Pananjung Pangandaran. Biji-biji yang didapatkan di kawasan TWA dan CA Penanjung Pangandaran adalah biji-biji orthodok 85,29%, intermediate 2,94 %, dan sebanyak 11,76 % adalah biji-biji rekalsitran.
This manuscript details a valuable seed exploration initiative conducted within the Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve and Nature Tourism Park in West Java. The study's primary objective was to collect seeds and ascertain the diversity of fruiting plants, contributing directly to *ex-situ* conservation efforts through the enrichment of seed bank collections. This work is highly relevant given the importance of seed banks as an effective method for biodiversity preservation, particularly for species within protected areas. The focused exploration in a specific conservation area provides essential baseline data for regional plant diversity and its conservation potential. The methodology employed involved an exploratory survey ('jelajah') for flora, followed by direct harvesting of fruits from trees. Crucially, the collected fruit and seed specimens underwent detailed characterization, moisture content measurement, and viability testing, which are standard and essential procedures for assessing seed storage behavior. Over a 14-day collection period, the researchers successfully amassed 34 distinct seed collections. A significant finding from this effort is the categorization of these seeds based on their storage physiology: a predominant 85.29% were identified as orthodox, 2.94% as intermediate, and a notable 11.76% as recalcitrant. This classification is vital for informing appropriate long-term storage strategies in seed banks. While this study makes a solid contribution by providing initial data for seed banking in the Pananjung Pangandaran area, there are areas for enhancement. A key limitation from the abstract is the lack of specific plant species identified and collected, which would greatly enhance the scientific value and applicability of the findings for conservation managers. Although 34 collections over 14 days is productive, a longer or multi-seasonal collection period could capture a broader range of species with varying fruiting cycles, thus providing a more comprehensive understanding of the 'diversity of fruiting plants' mentioned in the objective. Future research should explicitly list the collected species and could explore the ecological context of these species within the reserve. Nonetheless, the paper successfully demonstrates a practical approach to augmenting seed bank collections and provides critical insights into the storage behavior of seeds from this important conservation locale.
