Abstract

Review

This study addresses a critical aspect of urban planning: the evaluation of settlement infrastructure based on community perception, a vital input for sustainable development. Focusing on the Pulau Mas area in Magelang City, the research aims to assess the availability, quality, and management effectiveness of local infrastructure. The selection of Pulau Mas is particularly timely, given the allocation of renovation funds for 2024 and the existing ambiguity regarding development priorities among both residents and local management. Utilizing a robust methodology, the authors employed questionnaires structured around Grigg's five categories of infrastructure, analyzing community perceptions using a Likert scale and determining renovation priorities through the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The findings reveal an interesting nuance in community perception: while a significant majority of the 90 respondents (77) reported a high perception of infrastructure availability, 13 respondents held a moderate perception. Despite this generally positive outlook on overall availability, the subsequent AHP analysis clearly pinpointed sports infrastructure as the primary area for immediate improvement. This prioritization is directly attributed to its current existing conditions and the identified contemporary needs of the community, suggesting that even in areas with perceived high general availability, specific critical gaps or emerging demands may exist. The judicious use of AHP effectively translates complex community inputs into actionable development priorities, offering a structured approach to decision-making. The paper makes a valuable contribution by providing a data-driven framework for local infrastructure planning, particularly pertinent for the upcoming renovations in Pulau Mas. Its strength lies in directly linking community perceptions with concrete prioritization using established analytical tools, thereby offering a practical and timely guide for policymakers. The insights derived from this study are expected to directly inform the Magelang City Housing and Settlement Agency, ensuring that future infrastructure investments are optimal and precisely targeted to community needs. While the abstract effectively outlines the methodology and key outcomes, future research could potentially delve deeper into the *reasons* behind the moderate perceptions or explore the "dynamics" mentioned in the title by perhaps incorporating a temporal aspect or comparative analysis with other similar areas. This would further enhance the nuanced understanding of community infrastructure needs and perceptions.
