Abstract

The paper presents new evidence regarding the occurrence in West African Pidgin English and Krio of the diagnostic features of English-lexifier pidgins and creoles proposed by Baker & Huber (2001). It is shown that features thought not to be found in West African Pidgin English and Krio are in fact recorded, while others are attested earlier than hitherto believed. The two varieties at issue also provide evidence for the world-wide status of four diagnostic features.
