Abstract

Inter-religious tolerance is essential in maintaining social harmony and harmony in society. In Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is an Islamic organization that has a major role in advocating the values of tolerance and diversity. In the context of Wana Village, Melinting Subdistrict, East Lampung Regency, the role of NU in strengthening interfaith tolerance is the main focus of this research. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques that include direct observation in the field, face-to-face interviews with informants, and documentation. Primary data was obtained directly from informants regarding NU's da'wah methods in improving interfaith tolerance in Wana Village, while secondary data included books, journals, scientific papers, and other online sources. The results showed that in Wana Village, the role of the Nahdlatul Ulama community in improving interfaith harmony is very important. As the religious majority and the largest group of religious adherents in the village, the NU community has a great responsibility in maintaining existing pluralism. Not only that, the role of the NU community also includes various efforts that must be carried out to maintain inter-religious harmony. In a life of tolerance, an attitude of openness, acceptance, and respect for differences is very important to maintain.

Review

This research addresses a critically important and timely topic: the role of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in fostering inter-religious tolerance, particularly within the specific context of Wana Village, East Lampung. The abstract clearly articulates the significance of inter-religious harmony in Indonesian society and positions NU as a key actor in promoting these values. The choice of a qualitative approach, employing direct observation, interviews, and documentation, appears appropriate for delving into the nuanced dynamics of community-level interfaith relations and NU's localized efforts. The stated aim to understand NU's da'wah methods in improving tolerance provides a clear objective for the study. The abstract effectively highlights a key finding: the substantial and essential role of the NU community in Wana Village in improving interfaith harmony. By identifying NU as the religious majority and largest group, the research sets a compelling premise for understanding its responsibility in maintaining pluralism. The abstract concludes that NU's role involves "various efforts" necessary to uphold inter-religious harmony and emphasizes the importance of openness, acceptance, and respect for differences. This signals that the full paper likely provides valuable insights into how a dominant religious organization navigates and contributes to a tolerant multi-religious environment at the grassroots level. While the abstract establishes a strong foundation, it leaves some critical questions unanswered that would enhance its comprehensiveness. Although the abstract states that primary data was obtained regarding "NU's da'wah methods," the results section primarily affirms NU's significant role without detailing *what those specific methods are*. A more explicit enumeration or categorization of the da'wah strategies (e.g., specific programs, educational initiatives, interfaith dialogues, social actions) would provide a clearer understanding of *how* NU actively fosters tolerance. Similarly, while "tolerance" is identified as the outcome, the abstract does not elaborate on how this was operationalized or qualitatively assessed within the research, beyond the general observation of harmony. Addressing these points in the full manuscript would significantly strengthen the study's contribution and allow for better generalizability of its findings regarding effective strategies for interfaith tolerance.
