A noção de corpo já está presente nas discussões psicológicas dos primeiros escritos de Jean-Paul Sartre, mas ganha contornos mais nítidos em seu de ensaio de ontologia fenomenológica, O ser e o nada, em um capítulo dedicado aos modos de ser corpóreos. Neste, o filósofo propõe uma concepção de corpo psíquico, a qual, ao mesmo tempo em que questiona a perspectiva clássica que opõe a corporeidade à consciência e à psique, permite fundamentar seus escritos de psicologia.
