Abstract

O objetivo deste artigo é resgatar, ainda que de forma preliminar, a documentação existente na Diretoria de Museus da Secretaria de Cultura e Turismo do Estado de Minas Gerais, bem como fontes jornalísticas e locais, com o intuito de aprofundar a compreensão acerca da figura do colecionador Geraldo Parreiras e da formação de sua coleção, até sua aquisição pelo Estado de Minas Gerais, para integrar o acervo do Museu Mineiro. A coleção de obras de arte sacra de Geraldo Parreiras, formada em Minas Gerais, teve início em 1950 e foi constituída pelo colecionador durante 13 anos de visitas às regiões de Sabará, Caeté, Santa Bárbara e São João del-Rei. Já era reconhecida nacionalmente antes de ser adquirida pelo Governo do Estado de Minas Gerais para compor o acervo inicial do Museu Mineiro, em 1976, após a morte do colecionador. Esse reconhecimento pode ser comprovado pela documentação encontrada no Museu Mineiro, que apresenta aspectos da vida do colecionador, da formação e trajetória da coleção, além de destacar a movimentação de personalidades relevantes do cenário cultural da época em torno da coleção. Concluiu-se que a Coleção Geraldo Parreiras já possuía uma existência muito bem definida no campo cultural mineiro, que serviu de base para o tratamento museológico e divulgação que lhe foram dispensados após 1982, com a inauguração do Museu Mineiro.
