Abstract

In the context of globalization, which is reshaping education, this exploratory research has the twofold objective of identifying the forms that global citizenship education (GCE) takes in everyday school life and understanding how primary school teachers deal with unplanned sensitive issues related to global conflicts in the classroom. The research findings show that GCE is mainly manifested through the objectives of education for sustainable development and living together, conceived at the local level. Global issues confront teachers with numerous obstacles, particularly those of complexity and neutrality, which lead them to adopt avoidance strategies.
