Abstract

This article aims to narrate the position of history in the science of hadith and hadith studies. Hadith is historical evidence of the journey of the Prophet during his life, from the time of prophethood to his death on 11 Hijri. Everything contained in the hadith can be one of the historical sources that are included in primary sources or direct sources. Between the science of hadith and the science of history, there is a relationship that connects each other, with its function to understand past events in the context of Islam during the time of the Prophet Muhammad. The two sciences complement each other in reconstructing important events that occurred during the life of the Prophet Muhammad. As for the science of hadith, historical studies are required to ensure the authenticity of the sanad (chain of narration) and matan (content of the hadith narration). Understanding the relationship between history and the science of hadith requires an in-depth study of the basic concepts of both. It is necessary to describe the meaning of history and hadith, as well as the history of the development of the science of hadith and the recording of hadith. Keywords: Hadith, History, Prophet Muhammad

Review

This article, "Analysis of Historical Position in Hadith Studies and Hadith Science," proposes to explore the crucial intersection between the discipline of history and the science of hadith. The abstract clearly articulates the central premise that hadith serves as vital primary historical evidence for the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, spanning his prophethood until his death. The author aims to demonstrate the inherent and complementary relationship between these two sciences, positing that a historical understanding is indispensable for comprehending past events within an Islamic context and for the rigorous authentication of both the *sanad* (chain of narration) and *matan* (content) of hadith. A key strength evident from the abstract is the emphasis on the historical underpinning required for sound hadith scholarship. By framing hadith as a primary historical source and highlighting the necessity of historical studies for establishing authenticity, the article points to a foundational aspect of hadith methodology often taken for granted. The explicit mention of the mutual complementarity of these sciences in reconstructing significant events promises a holistic perspective. Furthermore, the abstract outlines a comprehensive scope, indicating an intention to delve into the basic concepts of both history and hadith, alongside tracing the historical development and recording processes of hadith, which can be highly valuable for readers seeking a consolidated understanding of this interdisciplinary field. While the abstract effectively establishes the relevance and scope of the topic, it largely describes what the article *will* cover rather than hinting at specific arguments or novel contributions. For instance, stating the "necessity to describe the meaning of history and hadith" suggests a foundational, almost introductory approach, which might limit the depth for advanced readers seeking new insights. It would strengthen the abstract to indicate *how* this "in-depth study" will be conducted – what theoretical frameworks, specific methodologies, or particular historical examples will be employed to illustrate the relationship beyond a general assertion. Providing a glimpse into the unique challenges or nuanced interactions between historical critique and traditional hadith methodology, or proposing a new interpretative lens, could further elevate the article from a descriptive analysis to an analytical contribution.
