Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of pedestrian facilities along Let. Jend. Suprapto Street in Banjarnegara City using the Level of Service (LOS) method, which emphasizes pedestrian volume, flow rate, speed, density, and available walking space to ensure comfort and safety. A descriptive quantitative method was employed to identify the types of sidewalk facilities and evaluate their performance. The findings revealed physical damage in the northern and southern segments of the sidewalk, including broken tiles and landslides caused by fallen trees. These damages compromise pedestrian comfort and safety. The overall condition of the sidewalk is still inadequate, particularly in terms of supporting infrastructure such as speed control devices, guardrails, seating areas, bicycle parking, surveillance cameras, emergency boxes, and signage. Existing facilitiesincluding traffic signs, road markings, street lighting, shelters, green lanes, and bus stops (particularly in the southern segment) require maintenance and repair. Based on performance analysis, the Level of Service (LOS) for pedestrian speed, average speed, density, and effective walking space was categorized as "LOS A." However, pedestrian flow rate in southern segment 1 and segment 2 was categorized as "LOS B," with values of 16.99 ped/m/min and 17.15 ped/m/min, respectively. Although pedestrian flow remains smooth, existing damage and insufficient supporting facilities may degrade service levels in the future. Therefore, repair and enhancement of sidewalk infrastructure are urgently needed to maintain optimal pedestrian facility performance

Review

This study, titled "Analisis Kinerja Fasilitas Trotoar Bagi Pejalan Kaki Di Kota Banjarnegara," presents a focused investigation into the performance of pedestrian facilities along Let. Jend. Suprapto Street in Banjarnegara City. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative methodology, the research employs the established Level of Service (LOS) method to evaluate sidewalk effectiveness. The primary objective is to assess pedestrian comfort and safety through the analysis of key parameters, including pedestrian volume, flow rate, speed, density, and available walking space, thereby providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of the pedestrian infrastructure. The findings reveal significant shortcomings in the existing sidewalk infrastructure. Physically, the study identified prevalent damages such as broken tiles and landslides in both northern and southern segments, which directly compromise pedestrian comfort and safety. Beyond physical damage, a critical deficiency was noted in crucial supporting facilities, with a lack of speed control devices, guardrails, seating areas, bicycle parking, surveillance cameras, emergency boxes, and adequate signage. Performance analysis yielded an overall "LOS A" for pedestrian speed, average speed, density, and effective walking space. However, specific southern segments (segment 1 and segment 2) recorded a "LOS B" for pedestrian flow rate, with values of 16.99 ped/m/min and 17.15 ped/m/min respectively. The abstract cautions that despite currently smooth pedestrian flow, the combination of existing damage and insufficient supporting facilities may lead to a future degradation in service levels. This study provides valuable and actionable insights into the urgent need for improvements in Banjarnegara's pedestrian infrastructure. Its strength lies in the systematic application of a standardized LOS method to quantify performance and precisely identify areas of concern, moving beyond anecdotal observations. The detailed enumeration of both physical damages and lacking supporting facilities offers a clear and practical roadmap for urban planners and policymakers. The explicit call for immediate repair and enhancement of sidewalk infrastructure is well-supported by the documented evidence, highlighting the imperative to prevent future declines in service quality. To further enrich this research, exploring the broader socio-economic impacts of these deficiencies and benchmarking against successful pedestrian infrastructure projects in similar contexts could provide additional depth and strengthen the policy implications.
