Abstract

There are still many Javanese language errors found in student narrative essays, even though the use of language according to the rules is one of the efforts to preserve the local language. The approach used is descriptive qualitative case study combined with the theory of Javanese language error analysis. The research data is in the form of narrative essays in Javanese ngoko variety of students that contain Javanese language errors. Data collection techniques used listening, note-taking and observation techniques. Data analysis used interactive model. The results showed that: 1) there are 4 language errors at the level of phonology, namely 75% errors in writing vowel phonemes, 20% errors in writing consonant phonemes, 2% errors in adding consonants, and 3% errors in subtracting consonants; 2) there are 5 language errors at the morphological level, namely errors due to the writing of prefixes separated from the base word as much as 25%, errors due to the writing of suffixes separated from the base word as much as 21%, affixing errors as much as 22%, errors in writing ater-ater anuswara as much as 9%, and diction errors as much as 23%; 3) Analysis of Javanese language errors can be implemented as an effort to preserve local language according to the rules in the realm of Javanese language learning; 4) In an effort to preserve the local language according to the rules, it is necessary to have a Javanese Language Error Analysis course.

Review

This study presents a highly relevant and timely analysis of Javanese language errors in student narrative essays, directly addressing the critical need for local language preservation. The chosen methodology, a descriptive qualitative case study combined with Javanese language error analysis theory, appears well-suited to the research objectives. The abstract effectively conveys a detailed breakdown of findings, quantifying various error types at both phonological and morphological levels. This specific enumeration of errors, such as the high percentage of vowel phoneme errors (75%) or issues with prefix/suffix writing, provides valuable empirical data for understanding the challenges in Javanese language acquisition and usage. Furthermore, the practical implications, particularly the call for incorporating error analysis into Javanese language learning and the suggestion of a dedicated "Javanese Language Error Analysis course," underscore the potential for this research to inform pedagogical interventions. While the abstract provides a strong overview, a few points could benefit from further elaboration in the full paper to enhance its impact and clarity. Specifically, defining the student demographic (e.g., age group, educational level) from which the narrative essays were collected would provide crucial context for understanding the observed errors and their generalizability. Similarly, while the focus on the "ngoko variety" is stated, a brief discussion in the main text about why this specific variety was chosen, and whether errors in other Javanese speech levels might differ, would be beneficial. Lastly, the abstract proposes a "Javanese Language Error Analysis course"; specifying the target audience for this course (e.g., teachers, university students, linguists) and its intended learning outcomes would strengthen this important recommendation. In conclusion, this research makes a valuable contribution to the fields of Javanese linguistics and language preservation. Its systematic identification and quantification of errors offer a solid foundation for developing targeted educational strategies and materials aimed at improving Javanese language proficiency. The emphasis on practical application, through integration into existing curricula and the proposal of a new course, highlights the study's potential for real-world impact. Assuming the full paper thoroughly addresses the methodological and contextual details, this work is poised to be an important resource for educators, policymakers, and researchers dedicated to upholding the standards and vitality of the Javanese language.
