This study aims to analyze the factors causing writing difficulties in Indonesian language learning among second-grade students at SDN 6 Bumi Nabung Ilir. The research was motivated by low writing skills, reflected in difficulties forming letters, slow writing speed, and frequent errors in the use of capital and lowercase letters. A descriptive qualitative method was employed with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling. The findings revealed three main types of writing difficulties: forming letters, writing at appropriate speed, and inaccurate use of capital and lowercase letters. The causes stemmed from internal factors, including weak physical condition, underdeveloped fine motor skills, low motivation and interest, and individual talent differences; and external factors such as limited family support, teacher’s instructional methods, school environment, and the influence of social media. The study recommends more effective, varied, and engaging writing strategies for elementary school students.
This study undertakes a pertinent analysis of factors contributing to writing difficulties among second-grade students in Indonesian language learning, motivated by observable issues such as poor letter formation, slow writing speed, and errors in capitalization. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative methodology, with data meticulously collected through observation, interviews, and documentation from a purposively sampled group at SDN 6 Bumi Nabung Ilir, the research provides a focused examination of a fundamental challenge in early education. This approach allows for an in-depth understanding of the specific problems faced by young learners in developing essential literacy skills. A key strength of the study lies in its detailed identification of both internal and external factors influencing writing proficiency. Internally, the research highlights critical aspects such as weak physical condition, underdeveloped fine motor skills, low motivation and interest, and inherent individual talent differences, offering a nuanced view of the learner's intrinsic challenges. Complementing this, the study thoughtfully explores external influences, including the pivotal role of family support, the efficacy of teacher instructional methods, the broader school environment, and even the contemporary impact of social media. This comprehensive categorization provides a robust framework for understanding the complex interplay of factors affecting student writing. The findings underscore that writing difficulties are not singular in origin but rather a confluence of physiological, psychological, and environmental elements. The recommendation for more effective, varied, and engaging writing strategies is a logical and necessary next step, directly addressing the identified challenges. While the abstract provides a strong summary, a full review would benefit from greater detail on the specific nature of the 'weak physical condition' and 'underdeveloped fine motor skills,' and examples of how social media influences writing difficulties. This study serves as a valuable local investigation, offering significant insights for educators and policymakers seeking to implement targeted interventions and improve foundational writing skills in elementary education.
