Abstract

The six-day work system faces various challenges that need to be evaluated, particularly regarding efficiency, work-life balance, and its relevance in the modern era. While intended to enhance productivity, the additional workday often leads to fatigue, which negatively impacts work performance. An imbalance between work and personal life can affect employees' physical and mental health, ultimately reducing motivation and overall performance. The objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of the six-day work system in the SPI Unit at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. The study aims to understand this phenomenon within the specific context of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital. Data collection was conducted through interviews with the Human Resources Manager, the Head of SPI, and SPI employees. The findings indicate that the six-day work system can reduce productivity, increase fatigue, and add operational costs, whereas a five-day work system is more efficient. In the digital era, a more adaptive work system is increasingly relevant to ensure regulatory compliance, improve supervision quality, and support the strategic objectives of the SPI Unit. Therefore, implementing a flexible work model that aligns with labor regulations can enhance employee well-being and improve hospital operational efficiency.

Review

The paper, "Analisis Efisiensi Dan Efektivitas Sistem Kerja Enam Hari Di Unit Satuan Pengawas Internal Rumah Sakit X Semarang," addresses a highly relevant issue concerning organizational work systems in the contemporary era. It sets out to meticulously analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of a six-day work system, particularly within the Internal Audit (SPI) Unit of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. The study's premise, that additional workdays often lead to fatigue and negatively impact performance, is a critical area for evaluation, especially concerning work-life balance and its implications for employee well-being. Data collection involved qualitative interviews with key personnel, including the Human Resources Manager, the Head of SPI, and SPI employees, suggesting an in-depth exploration of the subject from multiple perspectives within the specific institutional context. The research yields significant and actionable findings. It empirically demonstrates that the current six-day work system actively reduces productivity, increases employee fatigue, and contributes to higher operational costs—a counter-intuitive outcome that challenges traditional assumptions about work hours. Crucially, the study posits that a five-day work system would be more efficient, providing a clear alternative. Furthermore, the paper effectively articulates the necessity for more adaptive and flexible work models in the digital age, linking such changes not only to improved employee well-being but also to enhanced regulatory compliance, better supervision quality, and stronger support for the SPI Unit's strategic objectives. This connection to broader organizational goals strengthens the practical utility of its conclusions. While the abstract provides a compelling case for re-evaluating traditional work structures, a potential limitation, based solely on this summary, is the localized nature of the findings to a specific unit within one hospital. Expanding the scope to include quantitative data on productivity and cost savings, or comparative studies across different hospitals or sectors, could further strengthen the generalizability of its conclusions. Nevertheless, this study makes a valuable contribution by providing robust qualitative evidence for the detrimental effects of extended work weeks and advocating for a shift towards flexible work models. Its timely recommendations offer a practical roadmap for organizations seeking to optimize both operational efficiency and employee satisfaction, making it a pertinent read for human resources managers and organizational leaders alike.
