Introduction

Adolescência e sentimento de pertença. Este estudo revisa a literatura brasileira sobre adolescência e sentimento de pertença, destacando sua relevância para a saúde mental. Identifica lacunas e contribui para o diálogo nacional.

Abstract

O sentimento de pertença tem sido considerado, na literatura internacional, uma variável importante para o debate da saúde mental de adolescentes. Nessa direção, visando compreender como essa questão está sendo discutida no Brasil, este estudo objetivou identificar as produções acadêmicas da literatura nacional que relacionam sentimento de pertença e adolescência. Foi realizada revisão integrativa da literatura utilizando a combinação dos termos-chave “sentimento de pertença” e “adolescência” (e possíveis variáveis linguísticas), nas bases de dados SciElo e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Foram selecionados dez artigos, provenientes de diferentes áreas do conhecimento, sendo que sete não focalizam o sentimento de pertença como tema central de suas investigações, mas o abordam nas discussões, de forma articulada a variáveis como desenvolvimento da identidade, contextos de vida vulneráveis, participação em grupos esportivos, inclusão e participação social. Sobre os três estudos que focalizam a temática, destaca-se que estes não apresentam referenciais teóricos acerca do sentimento de pertença utilizados pela literatura internacional. Dessa forma, o presente estudo contribui para o diálogo entre as adolescências brasileiras, saúde mental e sentimento de pertença, na medida em que focaliza a produção nacional e apresenta lacunas que podem ser preenchidas por estudos futuros.

Utilizing a systematic search across the SciELO and BVS databases with specific keywords, the study aimed to map the current academic discourse in Brazil on the intersection of belonging and adolescence. The identification of a relatively modest pool of ten articles provides an initial, critical overview of the existing national scientific production on this internationally recognized crucial variable for adolescent well-being. A key strength of this review lies in its insightful dissection of the identified literature. The authors meticulously distinguished between studies that explicitly focalize the feeling of belonging and those that address it more tangentially. It is particularly noteworthy that a significant majority—seven out of ten articles—discussed belonging not as a central theme, but in articulation with other variables like identity development, vulnerable life contexts, participation in sports groups, and social inclusion. Even more critically, the review highlights a substantial theoretical gap: the three studies that *did* center on belonging demonstrably lacked engagement with theoretical frameworks prevalent in the international literature. This finding powerfully underscores a potential deficit in the conceptual grounding of belonging within Brazilian research. While the chosen methodology provides a solid foundation, a slightly more explicit description of the "possible linguistic variables" employed in the search strategy could further enhance the review's transparency and replicability. Nonetheless, the study makes a significant contribution by clearly articulating the current state and significant lacunae in Brazilian academic discourse on this vital topic. By pinpointing the need for more theoretically robust and dedicated research, this review serves as an important impetus for future investigations to deepen the understanding of belonging's specific nuances within diverse Brazilian adolescent contexts, ultimately fostering a more comprehensive approach to their mental health.
