The stated aim is to meticulously present and analyze Schröder's voyage, offering insights into his educational and cognitive journey. By focusing on a Gdańsk citizen's account, the study taps into a valuable primary source that can illuminate not only English society of the period but also the cultural perceptions and intellectual currents of an early modern traveler from a significant Hanseatic city. The abstract clearly indicates that the analysis will delve into both objective observations and the subjective experiences, impressions, and judgments of the diarist. A significant strength of this proposed article lies in its engagement with a detailed personal account. Travel diaries like Schröder's are crucial for reconstructing historical realities, offering immediate and unfiltered perspectives that institutional records often lack. The article's commitment to recreating Schröder’s "ideas of the country as well as his actual experiences" suggests a sophisticated analytical approach, one that distinguishes between preconceived notions and the lived reality of his visit. The emphasis on Schröder's choices of places to visit, alongside his interpretations of these experiences, underscores a promising depth of inquiry into individual agency and cultural encounter, moving beyond a mere recounting of events to an examination of historical perception. This study is poised to make a valuable contribution to several fields. Beyond its immediate historical focus on 17th-century England, it offers insights into the broader history of travel, early modern European intellectual networks, and the intricate dynamics of cultural exchange between the Baltic region and Western Europe. By dissecting Schröder's personal narrative, the article could shed light on the evolving perceptions of foreign lands, the motivations behind such educational journeys, and the individual's role in shaping historical narratives.
