Abstract

Abstract: Christian leadership has its own uniqueness compared to secular leadership. God is a person who works either directly or indirectly in the selection, testing and improvement of a Christian leader. Various dynamics occur in the life of a Christian leader and it is a certainty that ups and downs are often found in the formation of the character of a Christian leader. Various leadership problems are also experienced by Christian leaders, both internal and external problems of a Christian leader. The purpose of this study is to take a reflection for Christian leaders through three wilderness phases in David's life, namely the period before the anointing to become king, the period of waiting to become king and his reign as king over the united kingdom of Israel. This study uses an approach to the study of the Bible and literature. From this research, it will be seen that in David's life experience there was a process from God that he had to go through in his existence as a king of Israel. In the process David experienced the wilderness phase of his life. In each phase of the wilderness there were various challenges faced both physically and spiritually. In the end, everything went well and David was still pleasing to God and of course what happened to David could be reflected in the life of the Christian leaders of the time.

Review

The paper, titled "Tiga Fase Padang Gurun dalam Kehidupan Daud" (Three Wilderness Phases in David's Life), presents a compelling examination of Christian leadership through the lens of King David's spiritual journey. It clearly establishes the distinct nature of Christian leadership, emphasizing divine involvement in the selection, testing, and refinement of leaders. The abstract effectively outlines the paper's purpose: to draw vital reflections for contemporary Christian leaders by analyzing three critical "wilderness phases" in David's life – before his anointing, during his wait to assume the throne, and throughout his kingship over a united Israel. This focus on character formation amidst adversity promises valuable insights for those navigating the complexities of Christian service. The study adopts a qualitative methodology, relying on in-depth biblical and literary analysis to trace David's transformative experiences. As stated in the abstract, the research aims to illustrate how David's life was a divinely orchestrated process, replete with physical and spiritual challenges encountered within each wilderness phase. The central finding indicates that David successfully navigated these trials, ultimately remaining pleasing to God. This journey of endurance and faith is presented as a rich source of understanding for the character development inherent in Christian leadership, providing a historical and theological anchor for contemporary challenges. This paper holds significant potential for contributing to the field of Christian leadership studies. By grounding its reflections in the universally recognized narrative of King David, it offers a powerful and relatable framework for discussing resilience, divine providence, and character development. The emphasis on God's active role in leadership formation and the interpretation of challenges as integral to this process provide a robust theological foundation. Consequently, the study's ability to extrapolate practical, inspiring lessons from David's ancient experiences to the current dilemmas faced by Christian leaders makes it a valuable resource for both academic discourse and practical ministry application.
