The phenomenon of pornography exposure among junior and senior high school students has become an increasingly serious concern in the educational context. This study aims to examine the role of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers in addressing and mitigating pornography-related problems in schools. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed in this research. The study involved five guidance and counseling teachers selected purposively from various educational levels in Medan City, including junior high school (SMP), Islamic junior high school (MTs), senior high school (SMA), Islamic senior high school (MA), and vocational high school (SMK). The findings indicate that BK teachers employ diverse counseling techniques, with individual counseling being the most commonly used method. The preventive and remedial efforts undertaken by BK teachers include conducting psychoeducational programs, engaging in parent-teacher collaboration, and establishing partnerships with relevant stakeholders. However, the study also highlights several challenges, particularly the lack of parental supervision and cooperation, which hinders the effectiveness of counseling interventions. These results emphasize the need for strengthening family-school collaboration and developing comprehensive strategies for preventing pornography exposure among adolescents in educational settings.
This study tackles a highly relevant and pressing issue: the increasing phenomenon of pornography exposure among junior and senior high school students, and the crucial role of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers in addressing it. The abstract effectively outlines the multi-faceted approach taken by BK teachers, including the common use of individual counseling, alongside broader preventive and remedial strategies such as psychoeducational programs, parent-teacher collaboration, and partnerships with external stakeholders. This focus on practical interventions and collaborative efforts highlights the dedication required from educational professionals to combat such a pervasive and sensitive problem, offering initial insights into current practices. However, the methodological design described in the abstract presents significant limitations that impact the generalizability and depth of the findings. The study employs a "quantitative descriptive approach" but relies on an exceptionally small purposive sample of only five guidance and counseling teachers. This sample size is insufficient to support any robust quantitative claims or allow for meaningful generalizations beyond the specific individuals interviewed, undermining the rigor implied by the quantitative descriptor. While the abstract mentions diverse techniques and challenges, it provides limited detailed insight into the specifics of these methods or the nuances of the obstacles faced, particularly beyond the broad mention of parental supervision issues. Despite these methodological caveats, the study's conclusions underscore vital areas for practical improvement and future research. The emphasis on the challenges posed by a lack of parental supervision and cooperation strongly advocates for enhanced family-school collaboration as an indispensable component of effective prevention and intervention strategies. This initial exploration serves as a valuable precursor, suggesting the need for more expansive and methodologically robust investigations. Future research should consider a significantly larger and more representative sample, possibly employing mixed-methods designs, to delve deeper into the effectiveness of various interventions, explore the specific barriers to parental engagement, and ultimately contribute to the development of comprehensive, evidence-based strategies for safeguarding adolescents from pornography exposure.
