Abstract

Breast care during pregnancy is highly recommended. There are many benefits for both pregnant women and their babies. Breast care during pregnancy (trimester 3) increases the production of breast milk needed by newborns. Adequate breast milk maximizes the growth and development of babies and minimizes the occurrence of nutritional deficiencies in children. Because breast milk is the main source needed by babies until the first 6 months of birth. Breast care during pregnancy also minimizes breast swelling due to the presence of breast milk dams in the breasts, this occurs because of blockages in the nipples that are not cleaned and cause mastitis. In this study, a survey was conducted on patients at PMB Luluk Ester. In this study, socialization was also carried out on the importance of breast care during pregnancy. It is hoped that all ages of pregnant mothers can know about how to care for their breasts. From the results of the questionnaire, the p value was obtained as much as 0.000 (p> 0.05). So it can be concluded that there is a relationship between age and knowledge of breast care during pregnancy.

Review

This study investigates the relationship between age and knowledge of breast care during pregnancy among patients at PMB Luluk Ester. The authors appropriately emphasize the critical importance of breast care in the third trimester, detailing its benefits for enhancing breast milk production, promoting infant growth and development, and preventing maternal complications such as mastitis. The primary finding indicates a statistically significant relationship between a pregnant mother's age and her knowledge regarding breast care practices. While addressing a highly relevant and crucial topic in maternal and child health, the abstract presents several significant methodological and reporting limitations. The study's design is not explicitly stated, nor are crucial details such as the sample size, sampling method, or characteristics of the "questionnaire" used to assess knowledge. Furthermore, the abstract mentions "socialization" on the importance of breast care being carried out *during* the study, but it is unclear if this was an intervention component, a general clinic activity, or how it might have influenced the study's results. A critical error is also noted in the interpretation of the p-value: reporting "p value was obtained as much as 0.000 (p> 0.05)" when for a significant relationship, it should typically be p < 0.05. This fundamental misinterpretation undermines the stated conclusion and requires immediate clarification. The abstract also fails to describe the nature of the observed relationship (e.g., whether knowledge increases or decreases with age). Despite these shortcomings, the study touches upon an area vital for improving maternal and infant health outcomes. The finding that age is related to breast care knowledge suggests a need for targeted educational interventions, though without knowing the direction of this relationship, specific recommendations are difficult to formulate. For future publications, it is imperative to provide a comprehensive methodology, including study design, participant recruitment, data collection instruments, and a correct statistical interpretation. Elucidating the precise nature of the relationship between age and knowledge, along with exploring underlying factors, would significantly enhance the utility and impact of this research. Such improvements would allow for more robust conclusions and actionable strategies to promote optimal breast care during pregnancy across all age groups.
