Abstract

ARMENIAN SUBJECT AREA WITHIN SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES IN POLAND IN 2024Abstract, In 2024, several conferences, entirely or partially devoted to Armenian subject area, were organised in Poland. Two conferences, concerning the genocide of Armenians, took place in Warsaw – the first one at the University of Warsaw (participants: Edita Gzoyan, Nune Gevorgyan, Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala, Harutyun Marutyan, Dominika Maria Macios), the second one in the Eastern House of the Karta Center Foundation (Lech Nijakowski, Karine Arutyunova, Inga Nosikova). Subsequent four conferences concerned issues of archival science, museology, and historical documentation. They presented an Armenian strand in reference to the collections of the now-defunct Archdiocesan Armenian Museum in Lwów and the Foundation of Culture and Heritage of Polish Armenians in Warsaw: “Archives of churches and religious organisations in Poland from 1918 to the present times” in the Archives of Modern Records and the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (Hanna Kopczyńska-Kłos); “Family and social archives” in Lublin, within VI Domestic Archival Symposium, organisers: Association of Polish Archivists and State Archives in Lublin (Monika Agopsowicz, Hanna Kopczyńska-Kłos); “Polish museology in the inter-war period” in Ossoliński National Institute in Wrocław (Tomasz Krzyżowski) and “National Scientific Conference devoted to Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Church” in Tarnów (Ewa Soszko-Dziwisińska, Małgorzata Podkańska). Two conferences concerned only Armenian content: “Axentowicz. On the 165th anniversary of the artist’s birth” in Szymbark, within the European Heritage Days, organisers: Museum of the Manors of Karwacjan and Gładysz Families in Gorlice, Mesrop Mashtots Foundation in favour of Supporting Armenian Studies (Adrianna Napiórkowska-Bek, Urszula Kozakowska-Zaucha, Krzysztof Stopka, Andrzej A. Zięba) and “Armenians in the culture of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth: status and heritage”, panel within II Congress of Researchers of the History of Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus in Warsaw, organiser: Centre for Eastern Studies of the University of Warsaw (Krzysztof Stopka, Andrzej A. Zięba, Dzianis Liseychykau, Maksym Potapenko).

Review

This paper, titled "Tematyka ormiańska na konferencjach naukowych w Polsce w 2024 roku," offers a valuable and highly descriptive overview of academic activities within Armenian studies in Poland during 2024. The abstract clearly outlines a significant number of conferences, both fully and partially dedicated to Armenian themes, ranging from the genocide of Armenians to archival science, museology, art history, and the historical status of Armenians in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. By listing specific events, organizing institutions, and key participants, the abstract effectively functions as a detailed catalog of scholarly engagement, providing a snapshot of the breadth and depth of research in this specialized area. The primary strength of this work lies in its utility as an informational resource. For scholars engaged in Armenian studies, particularly those with an interest in Polish academia, this paper serves as an indispensable guide to the year's significant intellectual gatherings. It not only highlights prominent institutions like the University of Warsaw, the Karta Center Foundation, and the Ossoliński National Institute, but also identifies leading researchers involved in the field. This comprehensive cataloging fosters awareness of ongoing projects, potential collaborations, and the overall vitality of Armenian studies within Poland, demonstrating a robust and interdisciplinary approach to the subject matter. While the abstract is commendably detailed in its enumeration of events, the full paper could potentially enhance its contribution by moving beyond pure description to offer a brief analytical synthesis. For instance, a concluding discussion on recurring themes, emerging research trends, or identified gaps in Polish Armenian studies, as evidenced by these conferences, would significantly enrich the reader's understanding. Such an analysis could provide valuable insights into the intellectual landscape of the field, perhaps even suggesting future directions for research or inter-institutional collaboration. Nevertheless, as a foundational record of academic activity, this paper presents a crucial resource for the community.
