Review

This study endeavors to apply criminal profiling to perpetrators of serious assaults, aiming to enhance understanding of criminal acts and potential future behaviors. The use of empirical legal research to investigate such a pertinent issue within a detention center context (Class II B Raba Bima) is commendable and addresses a critical area in criminal justice and victimology. The abstract introduces an intriguing three-stage forecasting model (pre-occurrence, actualization, probability), suggesting a structured approach to analyzing and predicting criminal conduct. Overall, the abstract posits a valuable contribution, highlighting the practical utility of criminal profiling in managing and potentially mitigating serious offenses. However, the abstract currently lacks the specificity needed to fully appreciate the depth and rigor of the research. While stating that the study "could find out how the perpetrator" operates, it does not elaborate on *what* specific characteristics, patterns, or insights were discovered through the criminal profiling process. A more detailed outline of the *findings* beyond the *method* of forecasting would significantly strengthen its impact. Furthermore, the description of "empirical legal research" is broad; a brief mention of the data sources (e.g., perpetrator interviews, case files, correctional records) would provide crucial context and allow for a better assessment of the methodological soundness. Clarification on how the three forecasting stages directly derive from or are integrated with the criminal profiling findings would also be beneficial. The potential practical implications of this research are substantial, particularly for correctional facilities in identifying and managing high-risk individuals. To fully realize its promise, the complete manuscript should provide a comprehensive account of the specific elements derived from the criminal profiles, detailing the characteristics and patterns observed in the perpetrators of serious assaults. It would also be essential to thoroughly explain the development and application of the three-stage forecasting model, including its empirical basis and any validation efforts. Finally, a discussion of the limitations of such forecasting and the ethical considerations involved in predicting future criminal acts would add crucial scholarly depth and demonstrate a nuanced understanding of this complex field.
