The socioeconomic circumstances of a community can be positively impacted by the presence of tourism. The primary goal of advancing the tourism sector in the Borobudur Sub District area is now the growth of Super Priority Temple Tourism. More research is still necessary to fully comprehend the development's socioeconomic effects on the neighborhood. Analyzing the social and economic effects of the Borobudur Temple's high-priority tourism growth on the Borobudur Subdistrict community is the aim of this study. Qualitative research methodologies are used in this study. The Borobudur Sub District is the site of the study. The community, the secretary of the Borobudur Sub-District Head, and the tourism manager of the Borobudur Temple serve as the research's informants. Techniques for gathering data include documentation, interviews, and observation. The Modernization theory of Walt Whitman Rostow was the theory employed in this study. The study's findings demonstrate the favorable social effects of Borobudur Temple's top priority tourism growth, specifically higher levels of education and established collaboration. The economic impact on the community, on the other hand, is a rise in income as a result of more job openings, a wider range of employment options, and the emergence of new business ideas from the community. It is suggested that the expansion of Borobudur Temple as a top tourist destination necessitates coordination with other nearby tourist attractions, such as designing tour packages that simultaneously benefit all of the communities in the Borobudur Sub District. Additionally, the community should make the most of its current opportunities.
This study critically examines the socio-economic impacts of Borobudur Temple's "Super Priority Tourism Development" on the local community, a highly relevant topic given the increasing global focus on sustainable tourism and local benefit. The application of qualitative research methods, involving diverse informants such as community members, local government officials, and tourism managers, is appropriate for gathering in-depth perspectives on complex social and economic changes. The findings present a compelling case for the positive contributions of this development, specifically highlighting increased educational levels, enhanced community collaboration, and significant economic improvements through job creation, diversification of employment, and the emergence of new local businesses. The explicit use of Walt Whitman Rostow's Modernization theory provides a clear theoretical framework for understanding these developmental shifts. However, the abstract's brevity leaves some important methodological and analytical details underexplored. While the study indicates favorable outcomes, a more nuanced discussion of potential challenges, trade-offs, or unequal distributions of benefits within the community would provide a more comprehensive and balanced perspective on the socio-economic impacts. The specific qualitative analysis techniques employed are not detailed, which would enhance the study's methodological rigor. Furthermore, while Rostow's theory is mentioned, the abstract could elaborate on *how* this framework was specifically utilized to interpret the findings, demonstrating a deeper integration between theory and empirical observation beyond merely stating its application. Despite these points, the study offers valuable insights for policymakers, tourism managers, and local communities engaged in similar large-scale tourism initiatives. The practical recommendations, particularly the suggestion for coordinated tour packages that integrate other local attractions and benefit the broader community, are highly pertinent for fostering sustainable and inclusive tourism growth. Future research could build upon these findings by exploring potential negative externalities or conducting longitudinal studies to track the evolving, long-term impacts of "Super Priority Tourism Development." This paper serves as a crucial starting point for understanding the positive contributions of tourism in the Borobudur Sub-District and offers actionable insights for its continued development.
