Abstract

It seems as if the relics of the megalithic era will never fade over time. This can be seen from several relics that have distinctive characteristics, especially the relics at the Seputih Site. The Seputih site in Seputih Mayang Village seems to be a witness that there was prehistoric life that can still be seen today. The discovery of sarcophagi and dolmens, which can be seen and examined from a distance, shows that at that time there were already animist beliefs and dynamism, as indicated by the presence of stone tombs and places to worship the spirits of their ancestors. These discoveries from the past are certainly a legacy that must be safeguarded by today's society by preserving these relics as completely as possible. Through this article, we will discuss the efforts of community awareness in preserving the Seputih Mayang site as a cultural heritage from the megalithic period during the 1996-2012 period.

Review

This paper proposes to examine the revitalization of public awareness concerning the Seputih Mayang site in Jember Regency, focusing specifically on the period between 1996 and 2012. The abstract effectively introduces the site's significance as a repository of megalithic remains, including sarcophagi and dolmens, which serve as crucial evidence of prehistoric animist and dynamist beliefs. The study's clear geographical and chronological scope is commendable, setting a focused context for exploring efforts to preserve this important cultural heritage. The chosen topic is highly relevant to cultural heritage studies, particularly in understanding local community engagement in preservation. By concentrating on the 1996-2012 period, the article has the potential to offer a valuable historical case study of how public consciousness around significant archaeological sites evolves and is fostered over time. The inherent value of the Seputih Mayang site, as described by its unique megalithic relics, underscores the importance of documenting these awareness initiatives, which are vital for the long-term safeguarding of such irreplaceable historical assets. While the premise is strong, the abstract could benefit from greater detail regarding the methodological approach and the specific nature of "community awareness efforts" that will be discussed. For instance, it would be valuable to know how these efforts were identified, documented, and analyzed throughout the 1996-2012 timeframe. What specific initiatives, actors (e.g., local government, community groups, educational institutions), or challenges will be highlighted? Elucidating the *mechanisms* and *impact* of these awareness campaigns, rather than just stating their discussion, would significantly enhance the paper's contribution and provide deeper insights into the practicalities of heritage revitalization.
