Abstract

Este artigo faz parte dos resultados de pesquisa de mestrado que estudou as relações e condições de trabalho no extrativismo mineral destinado à construção civil nos municípios de Areia Branca, Campo do Brito e Itabaiana, no Agreste Central Sergipano. A investigação da realidade dos trabalhadores do extrativismo mineral foi assentada na análise da totalidade e das multideterminações que definem as relações sociais que impõem condições precárias de trabalho para este setor produtivo. Como abordagem metodológica, adotou-se a pesquisa qualitativa. Para os procedimentos metodológicos, foram realizados o levantamento bibliográfico tanto primário quanto secundário, o trabalho de campo com entrevistas semiestruturadas, registros fotográficos e anotações de campo. Os resultados expõem que o trabalho no extrativismo mineral para a construção civil na área de estudo é marcado por condições precárias e relações clientelistas e paternalistas, que demonstram o quão os trabalhadores da atividade de extração mineral estão submetidos à exploração de seu trabalho.

This article presents a focused investigation into the labor relations and conditions prevalent in mineral extraction for civil construction within the municipalities of Areia Branca, Campo do Brito, and Itabaiana, located in Sergipe, Brazil. Drawing from a master's research, the study addresses a critical, yet often under-examined, sector whose activities underpin significant economic development, particularly in infrastructure and housing. The paper's contribution lies in shedding light on the socio-economic realities faced by workers in this specific regional context, making it highly relevant for understanding the broader implications of extractive industries on human labor and regional development. Methodologically, the research adopts a robust qualitative approach, which is well-suited for exploring the complex and multifaceted nature of labor relations. The decision to ground the investigation in the "análise da totalidade e das multideterminações" signifies a commitment to understanding the holistic interplay of social factors that shape working conditions, moving beyond superficial observations. The methodological procedures are clearly articulated, encompassing a comprehensive bibliographic review (primary and secondary), extensive fieldwork, semi-structured interviews to capture nuanced perspectives, and the use of photographic records and field notes to enrich the empirical data. This mixed-method data collection strategy enhances the credibility and depth of the findings. The findings unequivocally expose the precariousness that characterizes work in the mineral extraction sector for civil construction in the studied area. Beyond mere economic hardship, the article reveals the prevalence of clientelistic and paternalistic relations, which are crucial in perpetuating the exploitative conditions under which these workers operate. These results are significant as they not only document the material deprivations but also unveil the intricate social mechanisms that maintain and normalize such exploitation. The paper thus offers valuable insights for policymakers, labor organizations, and researchers aiming to address the systemic challenges within extractive industries, emphasizing the urgent need for interventions that promote fair labor practices and protect worker rights in regionally specific contexts.
