Abstract

Kota Medan sebagai ibukota Sumatera Utara terletak pada posisi yang strategis karena merupakan wilayah transit yang dilalui oleh jalur strategis jalan lintas Sumatera. Struktur kota menyebabkan persebaran fungsi-fungsi kegiatan akan terbentuk dan diikuti dengan sistem transportasi yang ada. Penempatan lokasi terminal ini juga perlu diikuti dengan pembangunan sarana dan prasarana penunjang yang lain sehingga perubahan lokasi menjadi berhasil. Pengembangan kawasan Stasiun Pinang Baris Medan melalui prinsip-prinsip pengembangan berorientasi transit (transit oriented development) yang disesuaikan dengan karakter kawasan, dapat mengoptimalkan potensi sebagai kawasan transit yang prospektif. Perancangan terminal bertujuan memperbaiki kualitas fisik terminal Pinang Baris Kota Medan agar dapat berfungsi sebagai pusat terminal yang terintegrasi pada kawasan perkotaan. Untuk efisiensi penggunaan dana pembangunan sub terminal, maka penentuan prioritas dan tahapan pembangunan perlu dilakukan.
