Ankle sprain is a musculoskeletal injury due to excessive tension or tearing of the ankle ligaments. Ankle sprain injuries can be managed with the PEACE and LOVE approach, which is an injury management method that not only focuses on the improvement but also considers aspects of injury recovery to increase knowledge and awareness of injury and recovery of psychological trauma post-injury. KNC-Emergency is an organization that plays an active role in handling medical teams, therefore it is important to develop medical knowledge and skills in first aid for injuries. Purpose to find out the application effect of the PEACE and LOVE training on the knowledge and skills of ankle sprain management in KNC-Emergency members. The research method used the quasi-experiment, the sampling technique used purposive sampling using the Slovin formula for 38 KNC-Emergency members. The PEACE and LOVE training was conducted over two meetings using the measurement tool of a questionnaire sheet to measure knowledge and an observation sheet to measure ankle sprain injury management skills using the PEACE and LOVE approach. The bivariate result using the Wilcoxon test pre and post training showed a p-value of 0.000 (p-value < 0.05). The PEACE and LOVE training is effective to improve knowledge and skills of ankle sprain management in KNC-Emergency members
This manuscript presents a focused investigation into the effectiveness of "PEACE and LOVE" training on the knowledge and skills related to ankle sprain management among members of KNC-Emergency. Addressing a relevant practical need for an organization actively involved in medical team handling, the study employed a quasi-experimental design. Through pre- and post-training assessments, the authors demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in both knowledge and skills among the 38 participants, concluding that the training is effective in enhancing first aid capabilities within this specific cohort. A significant strength of this study lies in its selection of the "PEACE and LOVE" approach, a modern and comprehensive framework for injury management that encompasses not only physical recovery but also psychological aspects of post-injury trauma. This reflects a progressive understanding of holistic patient care. Furthermore, the choice of KNC-Emergency members as the target population is highly appropriate, given their direct involvement in medical response, making the enhancement of their first aid competencies directly beneficial. The study's design, utilizing distinct measurement tools—a questionnaire for knowledge and an observation sheet for skills—and the application of the Wilcoxon test for pre-post comparisons, are well-suited to the research question. While the quasi-experimental design effectively illustrates a pre-post training improvement, the absence of a control group inherently limits the definitive attribution of causality solely to the "PEACE and LOVE" intervention, as other external factors cannot be entirely excluded. Additionally, the abstract does not provide insight into the long-term retention of these newly acquired knowledge and skills, which would be critical for sustained practical application in real-world scenarios. Despite these limitations, the study offers valuable preliminary evidence for the immediate efficacy of the "PEACE and LOVE" training in improving ankle sprain management capabilities, providing a solid foundation for future, more robust research incorporating control groups and longitudinal follow-up assessments.
