Caregiver burden refers to the psychosocial strain experienced by caregivers as a result of their involvement in providing long-term care for older adults, both from a subjective and objective perspective. One factor assumed to influence the level of caregiver burden is leisure satisfaction, which reflects the positive perceptions that arise from engaging in leisure activities. The present study aims to examine whether leisure satisfaction has an effect on caregiver burden at PPRSLU Budi Sejahtera. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A total of 40 respondents were recruited using a total sampling technique. The instruments applied were the Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS) and the Zarit Burden Interview. Simple linear regression analysis was conducted to assess the influence of leisure satisfaction (independent variable) on caregiver burden (dependent variable). The linearity test yielded a significance value of p = 0.771 (p > 0.05), indicating that leisure satisfaction did not have a significant effect on caregiver burden. Therefore, the proposed hypothesis was not supported. In conclusion, leisure satisfaction does not significantly affect caregiver burden. This study contributes to the literature on caregiver burden by demonstrating that leisure satisfaction alone does not explain the strain experienced by caregivers, suggesting that other factors need to be considered in understanding caregiver burden among those caring for older adults
This study addresses a pertinent issue within the field of gerontology and caregiving, specifically examining the relationship between leisure satisfaction and caregiver burden among individuals caring for older adults at PPRSLU Budi Sejahtera in South Kalimantan. Employing a quantitative, correlational design, the research sought to determine if positive perceptions derived from leisure activities could mitigate the psychosocial strain experienced by caregivers. The authors utilized well-established instruments, the Leisure Satisfaction Scale and the Zarit Burden Interview, administered to a sample of 40 respondents. Their analysis, based on simple linear regression, concluded that leisure satisfaction did not have a significant effect on caregiver burden (p = 0.771), leading to the rejection of their initial hypothesis. While the study's objective is clear and the use of validated instruments is commendable, certain methodological aspects as presented in the abstract warrant consideration. The sample size of 40 respondents, while achieved through total sampling, is relatively small for a correlational study, potentially limiting the statistical power to detect subtle effects and impacting the generalizability of the findings beyond the specific institution. Although the simple linear regression analysis is appropriate for the stated aim, the absence of discussion regarding effect sizes could be a missed opportunity, as even non-significant findings can carry valuable contextual information. Furthermore, while the abstract rightly concludes that leisure satisfaction alone does not explain caregiver burden, the theoretical underpinning for *why* leisure satisfaction was initially hypothesized to be a significant factor could be more thoroughly articulated. Despite the non-significant finding, this study makes a valuable contribution by challenging an intuitive assumption and highlighting the multifaceted nature of caregiver burden. The conclusion that leisure satisfaction alone does not significantly influence caregiver burden strongly suggests that researchers and practitioners need to consider a broader array of variables when seeking to understand and alleviate the strain experienced by caregivers. Future research could benefit from exploring other potential factors such as social support networks, coping mechanisms, financial stability, caregivers' health, and the specific demands of care. Moreover, employing larger, more diverse samples and potentially multi-variable statistical models would enhance the robustness and generalizability of findings in this critical area of research.
