Stunting remains a critical public health issue among the Outer Baduy community, significantly affecting children’s growth and cognitive development. One promising local solution is the utilization of Moringa oleifera (moringa leaves), a nutrient-dense superfood with high potential to address nutritional deficiencies. Nonetheless, low levels of nutritional literacy and insufficient knowledge about the advantages and preparation of moringa leaves underscore the importance of delivering education that is both culturally appropriate and easy for the community to understand. This community service program aimed to enhance the Outer Baduy community’s understanding of stunting prevention through the introduction of moringa-based nutrition education. The methods employed included participatory counseling, visual communication using posters and x-banners, and the distribution of simplified educational materials. Direct socialization and collaboration with local leaders ensured effective message delivery and community engagement throughout the program. The findings demonstrated a heightened understanding among participants regarding the significance of balanced nutrition and the promising role of moringa leaves as a sustainable, locally available food resource. This program demonstrates how culturally grounded education can foster behavioral change and community empowerment in improving child nutrition. Moreover, the program plays a role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 2 (Zero Hunger).
The paper titled "Pendekatan Edukatif berbasis Kearifan Lokal dalam Pencegahan Stunting" addresses a critical public health challenge within the Outer Baduy community: childhood stunting. The authors present a highly relevant and culturally sensitive approach to combat this issue by integrating local wisdom and leveraging the nutritional potential of *Moringa oleifera*. Recognizing the significant barrier of low nutritional literacy and insufficient knowledge about moringa's benefits and preparation, the program wisely focuses on an educational intervention tailored to community understanding. This strategy is commendable for its potential to drive sustainable health improvement through locally grounded solutions. The methodology employed is particularly noteworthy for its emphasis on community participation and cultural appropriateness. By utilizing participatory counseling, visual communication through posters and x-banners, and the distribution of simplified educational materials, the program ensured that complex nutritional information was made accessible and relatable. Crucially, the direct socialization and active collaboration with local leaders demonstrate a robust understanding of effective community engagement, paving the way for better reception and internalization of health messages. This multi-faceted, community-centric approach effectively bridges the gap between scientific nutritional knowledge and the specific local context. The reported findings, indicating a heightened understanding among participants regarding balanced nutrition and the promising role of moringa leaves, underscore the program's immediate success in knowledge transfer. This enhanced knowledge base is a crucial first step towards fostering long-term behavioral change and community empowerment in improving child nutrition, leveraging a sustainable and readily available local resource. Furthermore, the program's explicit link to Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 3 (Good Health and Well-being) highlights its broader impact and potential for replication in similar indigenous or rural settings facing nutritional challenges. This work offers a valuable and practical model for culturally appropriate community-based health interventions.
