Pemanfaatan limbah minyak jelantah sebagai sabun cuci padat untuk pemberdayaan ibu-ibu pkk desa karangwuni kecamatan weru kabupaten sukoharjo. Pelatihan pemanfaatan limbah minyak jelantah jadi sabun cuci padat untuk ibu-ibu PKK Desa Karangwuni, Sukoharjo. Mengatasi masalah limbah dan membuka peluang ekonomi.
Cooking oil, particularly palm oil, is an essential part of the cooking process; however, its repeated use results in *minyak jelantah* (used cooking oil), which poses risks to both health and the environment. *Minyak jelantah* contains harmful compounds such as free fatty acids and acrolein, which can cause various diseases and environmental pollution. Field observations indicate that *minyak jelantah* waste is one of the main issues in household waste, primarily due to its high volume and the lack of proper management, which has the potential to contaminate the environment and negatively impact health. In response to this issue, the UNNES GIAT 9 Team in Karangwuni Village, Weru Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency, designed a program for the socialization and training of converting *minyak jelantah* waste into solid detergent soap, with the primary target being the PKK women's group. This program aims to raise awareness about the dangers of *minyak jelantah* and provide practical skills in processing it. The program was conducted on August 10, 2024, with 20 participants who took part in the socialization, soap-making practice, and question-and-answer sessions. The results showed that participants actively engaged in the socialization and practice sessions and were able to apply this knowledge sustainably, which is expected to be expanded to a wider community and integrated with other environmental programs. The participants successfully produced solid detergent soap from *minyak jelantah*. The soap-making process included the stages of material preparation, oil purification, NaOH dissolution, mixture blending, solidification, and a neutralization period before the soap could be used. This program not only provides an environmentally friendly waste management solution but also opens economic opportunities through products with marketable value.
The submitted work, "Pemanfaatan Limbah Minyak Jelantah sebagai Sabun Cuci Padat untuk Pemberdayaan Ibu-Ibu PKK Desa Karangwuni Kecamatan Weru Kabupaten Sukoharjo," presents a highly relevant and commendable community service initiative. It effectively addresses the pressing issue of used cooking oil (*minyak jelantah*) waste, which poses significant environmental and health risks in households. By proposing its conversion into solid detergent soap, the program offers a dual solution: an eco-friendly waste management strategy and a tangible avenue for economic empowerment among the PKK women's group. This approach is particularly valuable for its focus on local community engagement and practical problem-solving. The abstract highlights several strengths in the program's execution. The UNNES GIAT 9 Team's design, involving socialization, practical training, and Q&A sessions, demonstrates a well-rounded pedagogical approach aimed at both raising awareness and imparting practical skills. The reported active engagement of the 20 participants and their successful production of solid detergent soap from *minyak jelantah* are clear indicators of the program's immediate effectiveness. The detailed outline of the soap-making process—from material preparation and oil purification to NaOH dissolution, blending, solidification, and neutralization—provides confidence in the systematic nature of the training provided, fostering sustainable application of the acquired knowledge. While the abstract clearly outlines a successful community service program, a full journal article should further elaborate on several aspects to enhance its academic rigor and impact. For instance, quantifying the impact beyond participant engagement, such as objective assessments of soap quality (e.g., cleaning efficacy, pH levels), participant knowledge gain (e.g., pre/post surveys), and the economic viability of the produced soap, would significantly strengthen the findings. Details on the specific formulation of the soap, including the quantities of ingredients and safety protocols for handling caustic soda (NaOH), would be crucial for reproducibility and broader adoption. Moreover, a discussion on the long-term sustainability mechanisms, potential challenges in scaling up, and a comparison with other waste valorization methods would provide a more comprehensive academic contribution. Despite these suggestions for expansion, the initiative described is highly promising and sets a strong foundation for future research and community development efforts.
