Abstract

Review

This exploratory paper, titled "Os polyt(r)opoi do discurso," sets out to interrogate the landscape of contemporary language, departing from two significant theoretical premises: Lucius Provase's notion of the loss of discursive ballast and the inherent multi-situationality of all discourse. The abstract clearly articulates the author's intent to raise questions rather than present definitive conclusions, focusing particularly on the "flattening of the constitutive fold of all saying." This intricate conceptual framework, suggested by the title's play on "polytropos" and "tropoi," promises a theoretically dense and critically engaged discussion on the nature and challenges of modern communication. The paper's strength lies in its ambition to tackle highly relevant and complex issues regarding the contemporary state of discourse. The concept of "loss of discursive ballast" resonates strongly with current anxieties about information overload, post-truth, and the fragmentation of meaning, while the "multi-situationality" grounds the analysis in the realities of digital and global communication. The specific focus on the "planificação da dobra constitutiva" introduces a sophisticated theoretical lens, suggesting a deep engagement with the very fabric of utterance. This approach, while highly abstract, offers a potentially insightful critique of how complexity and inherent ambiguity within language might be being eroded or simplified. While the exploratory nature of the paper is explicitly stated and can be a valuable contribution in theoretical fields, a reviewer might look for how these questions are structured or what hypothetical directions the exploration might suggest for future research. Given the highly abstract concepts at play – "polytropoi," "discursive ballast," "constitutive fold," "flattening" – the clarity of their definition and the provision of illustrative examples within the main text will be crucial for the reader. Furthermore, for a broader academic audience, situating Lucius Provase's work might be beneficial if he is not universally recognized within the target discipline. Overall, the paper signals an intellectually rigorous attempt to grapple with profound questions about language and meaning, offering a critical and nuanced perspective on contemporary discourse.
