Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine 1) the correlation agility towards penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal athletes. 2) Knowing the emotional correlation towards penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal athletes, 3) Knowing the correlation between agility and emotional towards penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy athletes. The research used by the author is quantitative research, using the correlational method. The place of implementation of this research is at Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal, with research subjects as many as 24 athletes. The data analysis technique uses multiple regression analysis with a significance level of 5%. The results of the hypothesis test 1 showed a calculated r value of 0.503 > r table (0.05) ( 24 ) ( 0.388 ), it was concluded that there was a significant correlation between agility and penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal athletes. The results of the hypothesis 2 test show a calculated r value of 0.697 > r table (0.05) ( 24 ) ( 0.388 ), so it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between emotions and penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal athletes. The results of the hypothesis 3 test obtained a calculated F result of 13.853 with F table = 3.47, so that the calculated F > F table (13.853 > 3.47) concluded that there was a significant correlation between agility and emotion towards penalty kicks in Cahaya Gunung Football Academy athletes.

Review

This study investigates the relationships between agility, emotion, and penalty kick performance among athletes at Cahaya Gunung Football Academy Kendal. Employing a quantitative, correlational design, the researchers aimed to determine if individual and combined measures of agility and emotion correlated significantly with penalty kick outcomes in a sample of 24 athletes. The findings, analyzed using multiple regression, indicate significant positive correlations for agility (r=0.503), emotion (r=0.697), and the combination of both (F=13.853) with penalty kick performance. The topic is highly relevant to sports science and coaching, as understanding factors influencing high-pressure situations like penalty kicks can offer valuable insights for athlete development. While the study presents clear objectives and utilizes an appropriate statistical method for testing correlations, several methodological aspects warrant critical consideration. The primary concern is the remarkably small sample size of 24 athletes, which significantly limits the statistical power and generalizability of the findings. Such a small sample is particularly problematic for multiple regression analysis, raising questions about the robustness and reliability of the reported significant correlations. Furthermore, the abstract lacks crucial details regarding the operational definitions and measurement instruments used for "agility," "emotion," and "penalty kicks." Without this information, it is impossible to assess the validity, reliability, or appropriateness of the data collected, making it difficult to evaluate the scientific rigor of the study. The title's use of "Optimization" is also a misnomer, as a correlational study can only identify relationships, not suggest or test optimization strategies. Despite these limitations, the study offers preliminary evidence suggesting that both physical attributes like agility and psychological states like emotion may play a role in penalty kick execution. This could potentially inform coaching strategies by highlighting the importance of integrated training that addresses both physical conditioning and emotional regulation. However, to advance this understanding, future research should endeavor to recruit larger and more diverse samples, employ well-validated and clearly described measurement tools for all variables, and ideally move beyond correlational designs to experimental or interventional studies that can establish causality or evaluate the effectiveness of specific training programs aimed at "optimizing" performance. Such robust research is necessary to translate these preliminary correlations into actionable coaching insights.
