Abstract

Review

This paper proposes a timely and relevant examination of Comparative Literature's evolving interdisciplinary nature, aptly captured by its title, "O COMPARATISMO E SEUS DIÁLOGOS NOS TEMPOS DE HOJE." The abstract effectively establishes comparatism's historical roots in transversal and interlinguistic studies, while emphasizing the intensified dialogue with other disciplines since the latter half of the 20th century. The core argument focuses on the dynamic exchange of concepts, categories, and objectives between Comparative Literature and diverse fields, promising to illustrate this through representative samples, particularly with more recent intellectual currents such as Cultural and Postcolonial Studies, alongside established disciplines like History and Geography. This framing sets the stage for a pertinent discussion on the vitality and adaptability of comparatism in the contemporary academic landscape. A significant strength of this proposed work lies in its acknowledgment of Comparative Literature's inherent interdisciplinarity, a foundational aspect often revisited in times of disciplinary redefinition. By focusing on "tempos de hoje," the paper positions itself to offer a current snapshot of these crucial intellectual interfaces. The explicit intention to explore interactions with Cultural and Postcolonial Studies signals an engagement with some of the most dynamic and impactful areas of contemporary scholarship, while the inclusion of History and Geography underscores the enduring and fundamental dialogues that shape literary understanding. Such an exploration has the potential to contribute significantly by mapping current intellectual trajectories within the field and demonstrating how comparative approaches continue to enrich and be enriched by broader scholarly conversations. For further enhancement, the paper could benefit from a more detailed outline of its methodological approach. While promising "amostras representativas," clarifying *how* these dialogues will be analyzed—whether through specific case studies, theoretical surveys, or textual analyses—would strengthen its structure. Given the breadth of fields proposed (Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Studies, History, Geography), the author might consider whether a deeper dive into a select few would yield more profound insights than a broader, potentially more superficial overview. Additionally, the review would gain critical traction by moving beyond a descriptive account of these dialogues to offering a more analytical perspective on their implications, potential tensions, or the specific challenges and opportunities they present for the future of Comparative Literature. Elucidating the author's unique critical lens or original contribution to this ongoing conversation would further elevate the work.
