Abstract

Kim Gordon (1953) amerikai no-wave/punk zenész, énekes, dalszerző, aki leginkább a Sonic Youth basszusgitárosaként, gitárosaként és énekeseként ismert. A Girl in a Band (2015) című memoárjának alapját az a női perspektívából bemutatott idegenségtapasztalat képezi, amit Gordon a Sonic Youth működése során megélt egy maszkulin hegemóniára épülő zenei közegben, magánéletében. Amellett, hogy a Sonic Youth zenekar szubjektív történetét is megírja, feminista nézőpontból részletesen reflektál a társadalmi szerepelvárásokból fakadó kettős mércére a bátyja árnyékában élő lánygyermekként, a nőiség és a zenész-lét viszonyára, a férfiak által dominált műfajok és zenei, a művészeti közegeken belüli hierarchiákra, homoszociális viszonyokra. A memoár egyszerre tűzi ki célnak írója gyógyulását és a zeneipar működésének leleplezését: szociológusi intencióval tárgyalja az emberi kapcsolatok dinamikáit a lassan széteső család és zenekar esetében, a zeneipart és a new yorki művészeti szcénát, mint anyagi érdekek által vezérelt gépezetet, és az ezek által felkínált szerepek árnyoldalait mutatja be a rocksztár-mítosz általános és személyre szabott lerombolásán keresztül. Gordon memoárjának címében egyszerre reflektál arra, ahogy a zenekarban egyetlen nőként a figyelem és a férfitekintetek kiemelt tárgyának pozíciójába került, mint csak társadalmi nemében jelölt, tulajdonnevétől megfosztott ember (“lány”), valamint arra is, hogy a lány a zenekarban eladhatóvá teszi a zenei produktumot.
