Review

This article, titled "Mengampuni Orang Yang Bersalah" (Forgiving Those Who Offend), sets out to biblically and comprehensively explain the necessity of forgiveness based on 2 Corinthians 2:5-11, aiming for practical application among believers. The chosen biblical text provides a strong foundation for exploring this crucial Christian doctrine, particularly its communal and individual dimensions. The methodology employed, a literature review combined with a hermeneutical approach (described as a way to express, translate, and review), is fitting for an in-depth textual analysis. The stated use of the Bible's "original text" as the primary source material suggests an intention for rigorous engagement with the passage, which is a commendable starting point for theological research. The research identifies three key reasons for forgiveness: preventing the offender from perishing in sadness, enabling believers to genuinely love, and thwarting the devil's schemes. These findings are presented as direct implications for believers, emphasizing that forgiveness averts continued sadness and bitterness, embodies true love, and denies the devil an advantage. While the abstract claims novelty in its focused presentation on 2 Corinthians 2:5-11 to derive principles of forgiveness, the derived principles themselves (preventing sadness, demonstrating love, thwarting the devil) are foundational and widely accepted theological reasons for forgiveness across various biblical texts. The true novelty, therefore, would lie in the depth and distinctiveness of the exegetical process applied specifically to this passage, which the abstract hints at but does not elaborate on beyond stating the hermeneutical method's function. Overall, this article addresses a highly relevant and impactful topic within Christian theology and practice. The emphasis on practical application is particularly valuable, aligning theological insights with everyday life. For a future iteration or the full paper, it would be beneficial to articulate more clearly the specific steps of the hermeneutical process undertaken, demonstrating precisely how the "original text" informs the nuanced derivation of these principles. Additionally, while the focus on a single passage is a strength, a brief acknowledgment of how these findings resonate or contrast with broader biblical or theological discussions on forgiveness could further enrich the article's scope. Despite these minor points for refinement, the article promises to be a useful contribution to encouraging and understanding the vital act of forgiveness among believers.
