Abstract

Review

The submitted manuscript, "Kuriositas dalam Al-Qur’an: Studi Qur’an Tematik dengan Pendekatan Grounded Theory," presents a highly engaging and timely investigation into a crucial yet under-explored aspect of Islamic thought: curiosity (rasa ingin tahu). The abstract effectively highlights the foundational role of curiosity in the pursuit of knowledge, a concept often implicitly present but rarely explicitly scrutinized within Qur'anic exegesis. This study's thematic approach to an often-overlooked dimension of human cognition within the sacred text promises to offer significant new insights, moving beyond traditional normative interpretations to explore the epistemological and spiritual drivers embedded within the Qur'an itself. Methodologically, the paper proposes an innovative combination of a thematic (maud'i) Qur'anic study with Grounded Theory, a particularly apt choice for developing a conceptual framework from the Qur'anic text without imposing a priori categories. The abstract clearly outlines the rigorous analytical process, including open, axial, and selective coding, applied to a rich dataset comprising verses on thinking, reading, and questioning, alongside illustrative narratives such as those of Adam and the angels, reflections on creation, and the spiritual journey of Moses with Khidr. The identification of seven distinct forms of curiosity—existential, observational, empirical, scientific, academic, spiritual, and optimistic perseverance—is a compelling and original finding. This detailed categorization demonstrates the depth of analysis and offers a nuanced understanding of how the Qur'an not only directs but also actively inspires intellectual and spiritual inquiry. The findings of this study significantly advance our understanding of the Qur'an's pedagogical and inspirational dimensions, portraying curiosity not as confusion but as a vital conduit for acquiring knowledge, strengthening faith, and fostering self-awareness. The implications extend beyond academic tafsir, offering valuable insights for Islamic education, character development, and contemporary discussions on science and religion. While the abstract provides a robust overview of the study's scope and methodology, further elaboration on the unique contributions of each of the seven forms identified could enrich the discussion. Overall, this manuscript represents a commendable scholarly endeavor that makes a substantial contribution to Qur'anic studies, meriting publication and further engagement from the academic community.
