The study titled "Komunikasi Sosial Melalui Fotografi Pernikahan: Analisis Representasi Nilai Kekeluargaan Di Kota Kefamenanu, Nusa Tenggara Timur" presents a timely and highly relevant inquiry into the socio-cultural dimensions of wedding photography. By shifting the focus beyond mere aesthetic documentation to its profound role as a medium for social communication and the representation of familial values, this research makes a valuable contribution to the fields of visual culture, communication studies, and anthropology. The abstract clearly outlines the study's aim: to dissect the visual manifestation of family values and to articulate how wedding photography functions as a vital channel for social communication, particularly within the specific cultural context of Kefamenanu, Timor. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, employing Roland Barthes' visual semiotics – an excellent theoretical lens for analyzing the nuanced meanings embedded within photographs. The data collection strategy, involving both photo documentation and interviews with key stakeholders (photographers and bridal families), appears sound and well-suited to capture both the production and interpretation aspects of the visual narratives. The findings are compelling, effectively demonstrating how specific visual elements – such as family positioning, traditional attire, expressions of respect, and customary symbols – are instrumental in reflecting core values like togetherness, intergenerational reverence, and cultural identity. Furthermore, the research astutely identifies wedding photography's dual role as both an archivist of social values and a dynamic tool for cross-temporal communication within both private and public domains. The abstract concludes with a pertinent suggestion regarding the importance of photographers' awareness of cultural meaning in their visual works, aiming to strike a balance between modern aesthetics and traditional values. This recommendation underscores a practical application of the research findings, potentially paving the way for educational initiatives or cultural sensitisation programs for visual practitioners. While the abstract provides a strong overview, a full paper would benefit from further discussion on the specific challenges photographers face in balancing these elements, and perhaps expand on the reception of these images by different generations within the community. Overall, this study offers significant insights into how a seemingly common practice like wedding photography serves as a powerful conduit for preserving and communicating fundamental societal values, making it a commendable and insightful piece of research.
