This study critically examines the completeness of administrative and pharmaceutical aspects of outpatient prescriptions at RSU Dadi Keluarga Ciamis, a crucial area for ensuring patient safety and promoting rational drug use. The authors correctly emphasize that the initial review of prescriptions is a fundamental step in preventing medication errors, directly linking the clarity and validity of prescription information to effective patient care. The chosen focus on administrative and pharmaceutical completeness is well-justified, as these represent the foundational elements required before dispensing, making this research highly relevant to contemporary pharmacy practice, particularly in an Indonesian hospital setting. Utilizing a descriptive non-experimental retrospective design, the research systematically analyzed 400 prescriptions from a defined period (November 2022–April 2023). This methodology provides a snapshot of the current state of prescription practices within the institution. The findings reveal a significant disparity: pharmaceutical completeness stands at an impressive 99%, while administrative completeness is considerably lower at 78%. This stark difference is a key insight, suggesting that while the essential drug-related information is almost universally present and correct, there is a notable deficit in the administrative details required for comprehensive and compliant prescription processing. The conclusions drawn by the authors – that these findings are important for hospital and community pharmacy practices due to their link to rational drug use and patient safety – are entirely warranted. The high pharmaceutical completeness is commendable and reflects strong adherence to core medication information standards. However, the 78% administrative completeness highlights a significant area for improvement. Future research could delve deeper into the specific types of administrative incompleteness and their root causes, such as missing patient demographics, prescriber information, or dates, to develop targeted interventions. This study provides a valuable baseline for quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall completeness of prescriptions, thereby further safeguarding patients and optimizing pharmacy services.
