Abstract

Review

The review titled "Jerawat (Acne vulgaris): Review penyakit infeksi pada kulit" aims to provide an overview of acne vulgaris. The abstract outlines a comprehensive scope, defining acne as a condition involving clogged pores and inflamed pustules, and detailing numerous contributing factors. These include well-established elements like increased sebum production, follicular hyperkeratosis, and the role of *Propionibacterium acnes*, alongside other influential factors such as stress, climate, cosmetics, diet, and medication. The abstract also sketches the mechanistic steps of acne formation, from sebaceous gland stimulation to inflammatory lesion development, and lists the primary goals of treatment. A strength of this abstract is its broad coverage, encompassing both internal physiological processes and external environmental triggers, thus providing a holistic perspective on acne pathogenesis. It effectively summarizes the multi-factorial nature of the disease and outlines common treatment strategies aimed at correcting follicular abnormalities, reducing sebum, targeting *P. acnes*, and mitigating inflammation. However, the abstract presents a minor inconsistency by stating "Penyebab pasti dan patogenesis A. vulgaris masih belum jelas" immediately before detailing a clear mechanism of formation. More significantly, the title classifies acne as an "infectious disease," a framing that the abstract, while mentioning *P. acnes*, does not fully substantiate as the primary defining characteristic of acne's etiology, given the equal emphasis on sebaceous activity, hyperkeratosis, and hormonal influences. This particular framing might require stronger justification or a more nuanced discussion in the full review. Overall, the abstract suggests that the full review will serve as a valuable general reference, compiling a range of information pertinent to acne vulgaris. For the paper to truly excel, especially given its title, the authors should clearly articulate the specific angle or novelty of their "infectious disease" perspective. This could involve a deeper exploration of bacterial involvement beyond mere colonization, perhaps discussing specific virulence factors or host immune responses to *P. acnes* that align with a disease classification as primarily infectious. Clarifying the interplay between bacterial presence and other non-infectious pathogenic factors would strengthen the review's coherence and academic impact. As it stands, the abstract promises a comprehensive, albeit somewhat conventional, summary of acne vulgaris, which could be particularly useful for students or general practitioners seeking a broad introductory text.
